Another real icon, from the golden days, is gone.  These men layed the foundation for the WWE. Captain Lou, or Mr. Albano, as he should be referred as, was hard-core 20 years before they named it.  Over the edge, mischievous beyond believe, an innovator personified, and a talent surpassing wrestling, film, and much more.  Rubber bands, piercing's, crazy hair, outlandish clothes, and most of all, an attitude from hell.  Commanding the spotlight, and once in hand, never dropping the ball.  It was always an experience. Funny, loud, rude, and just way out there, as far as the rope would stretch.

But most of all, a great talent who knew this business inside and out and gave it his all. Yes, another real superstar has left us.

..you are so right. unfortunately i didnt get to know Mr. Albano real well. but what i did know was he knew what he was talking about, and when he spoke people listened. vets like him and yourself and true gems and i wish this business wasnt so plastic and just put vets out to pasture instead of learning from them and imulating there every move and repecting their knowlege and savy of the business. you are right another icon is gone and can never be replaced. ..

Thanks for posting Jake.  Like everything else I have read about Mr. Albano it made me laugh and cry.  He was one of the greats and there will never be another like him.  I will miss him greatly but I know he is in a much better place.

I started watching wrestling during the Cyndi Lauper era like most people..I still remember asking my best friend who he was when I saw her video. She told me he was a wrestler that very afternoon watched wrestling with her and was hooked right off.
I got to meet him at an appearance at an auto show while he was doing Mario. He was so sweet and so good with the kids who came to meet him. He had started to lose weight by then and he could tell by my face I was surprised.(Of course by then I was too old for Mario but couldnt pass up the chance to meet Capt Lou!) He explained and told us a funny story about some water he drank in Mexico...He talked to us for a minute or so and we got a picture that has long since been lost. He will never be forgotten by wrestling fans. He will never be forgotten by me because of how sweet he was.

YOUR RIGHT ON ALL YOU SAID JAKE. CAPT LOU WAS AN INNOVATOR FOR SURE. MY FIRST MEMORIES OF THE CAPT WAS WITH THE SAMOANS AFA AND SIKA. HE WAS AS DARING AS THEY WERE. GOD BLESS CAPT LOU AND HIS FAMILY. THE CAPT WILL LEAVE A VOID THAT WILL NEVER BE FILLED. ALL OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE ALBANO FAMILY.

I was a huge fan of Captain Lou as a kid and, really, all through life. As we grow older we have those totemic images that grow in our minds that come to stand for a whole set of complex emotions when we recall those times gone by, and the image of Captain Lou is one of the more powerful and happy ones I have. His antics were a much anticipated highlight of every week. My dad and I would sit on the couch and watch him and the Wild Samoans every Saturday morning. He actually played a part in a movie filmed in RI ("Its a Complex World") in which my friends uncle played a large roll in and it was a great treat for me to see one of the great icons of my youth up close. He was a genuine treasure. Unfortunately (some would say) Mr. Albano had a huge influence on me in my wardrobe and appearance for years! I am truly saddened to see him pass but am glad to have so many great memories of him.

Its true, we have lost another super wrestling icon.  From wrestler to managing the like of THE WILD SAMOANS, GEORGE THE ANIMAL STEEL & THE HEADSHRINKERS. He sure will be missed. He was the kind of guy who would give you the time of day. I remember taking a group picture with him when I went to a live event in New York city. That picture hangs proudly in my living room. R.I.P CAP LOU.

Such cunning and clever words could only be hissed by the man that is referred to as "the snake" . Short but effective with a lot left for the audience to think about...typical Snake psychology right there.  R.I.P. Mr. Albano.

..When I was a child growing up as a wrestling fan...Captain Lou Albano and Ric Flair were legends to me before I ever got to see them on tv. For me what was on tv was Memphis and then Georgia wrestling, so wrestling magazines told me the stories of Captain Lou and Ric Flair. Finally when WWE bought Georgia wrestling and on tv was Captain Lou. Finally I got to see this legend that the magazines told me about on my tv set. I am truely sorry for the passing of this legend but I am so honored to have had that opportunity to see him and remember the things that he brought to the business. If there would of been no Captain Lou Albano, would there have been the rock and roll/wrestling connection and would there have been a Hulkamanina??? Captain Lou was at the center of the big boom for the WWF (now WWE). I want to thank Captain Lou Albano for all he did for the business and for the great memories...

You are absolutely right about Mr. Albano. It was an exciting time to watch him in the wrestling business. When I heard I cried, but I cried even more when a lot of the newer wrestlers couldn't say anything about him. The problem I see is the younger the talent the less likely they know the hall of famers and legends of the business.......R.I.P. Captain Lou Albano

I remember he was the host of the super mario bros. super show back in the day (sometimes he would come out in the mario suit, what a perfect candidate) & for some reason when he was on that show he always had about ten times the amount of rubber bands in his beard than usual.

He was an icon of my generation and one of the greats all around. He helped broaden the horizons of pro wrestling, turning it into the big industry it is today. He saw ways to promote himself that were totally outside the box at the time and even for today's standards.

He was a risk taker. He was the embodiment of entertainment. Thanks for sharing the heart and attitude of Capt. Lou with all of us!

You will be missed Sir.

R.I.P. Mr. Albano.
