These guys are some of my favorite song writers; each have a unique style of their own. What they do have in common, in my opinion, is the way they write their songs. A lot of tunes nowadays on the radio and mostly that pop who ha have nice catchy tunes, but they don't say anything. They are filled with worthless verses that go on and on, but end up saying absolutely nothing. . This is why songs like 'Screaming infidelities' (Dashboard), and 'Slow dancing in a burning room' (John Mayer) are such great songs and have a thick following of people who actually get it! No words are wasted. There are no filler lines that are thrown in just to fill up space or finish a meaningless line. They say exactly what the want to say and nothing more. So when I write songs I like to keep this in mind. Where am I going with this line? Does it have meaning? For example in 'Just go' (Misdirection) it was a very specific story where I didn't want to waste any words and say everything that I wanted to. I think i accomplished this as the song came out pretty easily. I might write another blog explaining that little gem of a story, if anyone is interested.....
