Second month of (voluntary) unemployment: I roam seeking some kind of spark, inspiration.
It struck me yesterday, that my life has become something out of a collection of J.G.Ballard short stories.
As twighlight descended, the blokes loading up the rubble at the Westdene site got stuck into the detrious strewn from the outbuildings subsequent to the second fire, I entered a realm of the surreal. Half charred, still sodden piles of comic books, paperbacks, sketches, pages of my own art were soullessly dumped into the back of the 4-ton truck.
"You read all of this stuff?" the truck-driver asked.
"Yes, every one, over 30 years of stuff there" I answered
Singed covers of "Killraven", "Deathlock" swirled in the lessening light, twisted copies of Moorcock, and yes, Ballard, ground under foot and shovelled into the truck, filling it.

As I locked up the property (after warning the squatter that the cops were looking for him) I noticed a trail of paper along the road. Driving off on the Enfield I recognised covers, sketches and other pages that had blown off the truck and lay in gutter and on tree. Each artifact triggering a memory, a chord, a page in my own life, tumbling into the gloom of the approaching night...
