Fans of belly dance, world music, and amazing female vocals must not miss the Niyaz concert at The Trocadero. Niyaz features former Vas vocalist Azam Ali (you may have heard her track "Endless Reverie" on the recent Asleep By Dawn/Hot Topic CD/DVD or her track "Cold Black Key" on the recent Neil Gaiman CD). The band combines elements of Persian and Indian music with some light electronic flourishes, with lyrics based on mystical Sufi and Urdu poetry.  Fans of Dead Can Dance, Irfan, Vas, Qntal, Natacha Atlas, etc., are strongly urged to check out Niyaz! In conjunction with the show, there is also a separate event taking place just prior to the concert: a traditional Persian dance workshop taught by award-winning instructor Laurel Victoria Gray.

The show takes place on Friday, April 27th, at the Trocadero Theatre, located at 10th and Arch streets in Philadelphia.  All ages are welcome.  Doors open at 8:30pm.  Advance tickets are on sale now through Ticketmaster and Digital Ferret CDs (526 S. 5th St, 215-925-9259) and will also be available at the door.

All the details of the Niyaz concert (including a special musical guest performance by Animus) and the dance workshop with Laurel Victoria Gray (including links to ticket sales) can be found here:
