Five days ago, six houses stood in this very spot, just over our back fence (the green house in the background is due to be removed today). They were vacated (a few of them forcibly) and destroyed to make way for a new CVS. Never mind the Walgreen’s right across the street. One elderly gentleman held out until the last minute. His family had built and lived in those houses for close to a century, and his in particular was in immaculate shape. But they enforced eminent domain and kicked him out. He took most of his belongings, including old trophies, etc., and just put them in boxes by the curb and left them there for whoever wanted them. It was very sad. I have no idea where he went.

This story is is everything I hate. Well, maybe not everything; that would be quite a list.

It's so depressing to watch this out the window, when only a week ago, I could look out at tall old trees, just filling out their spring foliage.

Right this moment, as I sit here at my desk in the bedroom, I am watching the large machinery rip the siding off that green house in the picture. It won't be there much longer. There were two dead birds in our yard this week, and two bunnies running frantically around like they'd lost something. How many nests were destroyed by the old trees that have been uprooted, and was a litter of baby bunnies killed by the machines? I don't know. I even cried for the gardens that were destroyed. I can't bear to think of the people who were so rudely displaced.
