The Used Presented by Myspace and The List was an unexpected yet exciting venture Loreta Harlequin and I entered. We got to the venue, The Gaelic club in ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Sydney to find many a fan dressed in the Masquerade theme and eagerly waiting for the doors to open. The security at the venue were surprisingly friendly which is a nice change from the usual jerks they hire for shows. We lined up for a while and met a few of our fans and friends from Buzznet.com and of course Myspace. The crowd was a friendly one and everyone was amping one another up for the show. We got photographed a few times by the official photographer for the event, who might I add was a total sweety. If he's out there reading, a big hello to you from Team Harlequin. Once the doors opened, we were let in and the crowd waited eagerly for The Used. We were entertained by a giant screen showing bits and pieces from The Used DVD.

Me being hard to entertain and having the attention span of a 2 year old, my eyes wandered to the balcony and there was Dan watching the crowd amp themselves up in anticipation of seeing them. He was really great and waved for the cameras or should I say camera phones. He even played catch with a few peoples masks and balloons, which appeared out of nowhere. Bert and Jeph also made a quick appearance to the balcony sending the crowd insane.

The show started with their latest release from Lies for Liars, called The Bird and Worm. Bert looking refreshed and incredibly healthy which to me was a surprise, do offence Bert but cmon, you constantly look dirty and drunk HAHAHA. I even mentioned how the crowd should feel special because it looked like Bert washed his hair to Loreta.  The show was based mainly around The Used new record, and in my opinion, not being a crazy obsessed " I have every album and unreleased song ever written by The Used" person, it was a decent show. The record I'm sure will do excellently. However being the critical person I am, the songs on the record sound like they're cannibalized versions of other bands work. But that's just my opinion. But it has to be said, The Used put on an amazing show. In short they are energetic as I don't know what. I loved the fact they took a moment to celebrate their success and smoked a cigar each. * smoking is bad kiddys* . I think the best part of the show personally was the interaction Bert had with the crowd. He made eye contact and I think he made a real connection with the moshing sea of black. The show came to an end with their old music, which is great because its always a good way to tell the newbie fans to the hardcore "I've been there from day one" fans. Funniest moment out of the show. Not the constant masks Bert tried on, but the cheap shot he made at a certain newly reformed "vampire". We all know who your talking about kidd.
