Hi people, I have been fairly lucky during my musical career, having worked with my idols meeting fresh new talented muso's etc. The last two weeks has been an incredible little journey for me. I'll try to explain. One night a couple of weeks ago I was thinking about Glenn Hughes bass player and singer for Deep Purple (NB I had met glenn on one occasion at a venue in London) I awoke early the next morning and checked out his myspace, 5 minutes later a great friend of mine Steve Barney called me on Skype. He, by the way is the drummer for Annie Lennox, Sugar Babes, Jeff Beck etc. we started talking about life, the "credit crunch" you know the usual muso "bitching session" ha ha. We went on to talking about other drummers and he, unpromted mentioned his mate from norfolk and said he was the drummer for Glenn Hughes, I said "wow" that's weird as i was just checking him out on his site. We continued to chat about stuff when suddenly my mobile rang, it was my swedish pal Anders Olinder a fantastic keyboard player, he was calling from New York he said to me Glenn had asked him to ask me if i was available for some shows I was astonished, not because I was happy for work; but how life is strange, even stranger than fiction.
I was sent some music etc and had to learn 12 songs I was told there would be no rehearsals just a line check. I rose to the challenge we did two amazing gigs. It was a case of 1 2 3 4 steam in. I'm good at that.

As well as that stuff I've been working with Pee wee ellis and Fred wesley on a project called "STILL BLACK STILL PROUD" this has been amazing also. I've been working with those guys for a good while now and I would testify that that has been my school of funk I'll tell you something, I'm not too bad at the funky shit you know. My funk has led me to various cool places in the world one cool vibe was a late night jam in Rotterdam this summer whoo we murdered it.
A few months back I was asked to put together a band for Dave Lee aka Joey Negro well I assembled some of the worlds finest funksters and we are killing it at the moment the band is so hot it's a sin ooh ouch. My versatility has taken me to some very interesting places over the years, recently it was to Wood Green in London where I was invited by an old aquaintance Nick Gold from World Circuit Records he asked me to blast some funky wacka chukas and vibes on some music he was producing for the legendary Oumo Sangare a terrific Malian singer. Hey people, that was an interesting session loved it, quite challenging.
Anyway putting the finishing touches on my new record which is sounding sublime. Oh yeah, look out for releases on Tonic Records and subsiduary company Alltone Muzik. I'll get some sound bites to you soon.

take care

Axeman
