Steve Vaile's performances have been given in rock festivals, concert halls and even on a 65-foot schooner to an audience of Humpback whales and dolphins in Maui. C P 2009 Steve Vaile International ASCAP. In Maui he met film producer John Perry while playing his guitar by a stream in the Iao Valley. John and partner, Denise were filming a 'Save The Whales' film. John and Denise were invited to our recording studio to hear the music we were writing and recording. We became friends and did a live concert by placing a friend's white grand piano on the deck of the 65 schooner, 'The Searunner', for John Perry's film. The shoot was broadcast with underwater speakers and hydrophones to the whales and dolphins and we could hear the whales and dolphins as we were playing the music via headphones.
In Maui we worked with Joan Macintyre, author of the book "Minds In The Water' and the song 'Minds In The Water' is dedicated to her work. Our team included Dr. John Lilly, whose advanced work with our dolphin/ human relationship is greatly appreciated. The film content was shot and produced by John Perry Studios circa 1977 with 16mm film prior to HD format's availability. "We went out and shot on-board the schooner live and used underwater footage, helicopter or hydrofoils for capturing our concert's live over the multi-day event." Then our project moved to Los Angeles for post-production and recording at Malcom Cecil's Studio in Santa Monica (Stevie Wonder's former producer) and many concerts included the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with Paul Horn. The film's intent was to offer a "Save The Whales" opportunity Internationally to preserve whales for our future.
