I've finally recorded two new demos in my home studio. Funny how things change during the process of recording - quite often a tune evolves to something quite different than what I had in mind:
THE WISHBONE: I started out by experimenting with some Gilmour-ish sounds in a Vox Tonelab guitar effects box. As the composition evolved, it reminded me more and more about Wishbone Ash, because I was adding 2nd and 3rd harmonies on the melody line. I think even the drum groove is a bit, eh, Wishboney... :) The solo that rides out to the end of the tune has quite a few bloopers in it, but I chose to keep the first take because I like the 'spontaneous' feel to it.
BENNY'S EARLY: On the other new tune I started out with a nylon string sound and a much more funky groove that initially reminded me of Lee Ritenour, but the melody AND the groove I chose to work on turned out sounding more like some early Earl Klugh tune - or some of the stuff he played with George Benson in the early 80s (but not nearly as good as theirs, of course!!!).I believe Mr.Benson had a record called "BENNY's Back" at some point in his career, and I mixed that with EARL Klugh and came up with the oh-so-incredibly clever title.
I have more music in my head... stay tuned....
P.S.: Please bear in mind that these are only very rough demos, as each song was written and recorded within one evening.
Best,
Trygve
