... And after much deliberation and by mutual agreement ... ALTER EGO is going to disband after our June 19 gig at the Revolution Room.

It's been 8 years since this band started, and since March 2008, I was the last original member. In recent months, we seem to have been saddled with a less than stellar reputation with some local bars and have been getting cut, bounced, replaced, cancelled, what have you, for what seems to be ridiculous reasons and the pool of clubs we're playing has grown smaller and smaller.

It has been in the back of my mind for a few months to dissolve the band and have everyone start fresh. We'd go out and have a bad gig like the last Bitter End or Blue Mustang show, then a great one like Bob & Becky's wedding or Revolution Room and I would keep putting off bringing it up.

Recently our drummer, Jeff Sellers, wrote to all of us that he's been offered a position in another band and he's decided to take it. He felt it was a better opportunity for him and had no hard feelings or ill will towards any of us and thanked me personally for allowing him to play in an outfit like ALTER EGO. Jeff, it's been a pleasure being one-half of the toughest rhythm section in town with you!

Roy Eastwood, our stellar lead singer/rhythm guitarist, will be playng with Faceless a Godsmack tribute band with Roli Garcia Jr. on drums and Jorge Palomo on bass beginning in June. He'll also be available to rent out his PA occasionally and run sound for other bands.

Our lead guitarist, Ruben Rea, presently plays with Sumofist, Get The Belt and Love Taco, so I know he'll stay busy, as great a guitarist as he is!

As for me, hey, I'm a bass player, we're always in demand! I auditioned with the band Three Way Split last week and really liked what I saw and heard. I've decided to join them and they already have gigs lined up and I can step right in after I've learned their extensive song list. It felt very natural and comfortable playing with them. They do seriously kickass classic rock, but also want to add a few newer tunes as well.

Like I said, this is all very amicable and there are absolutely no hard feelings between any of us. I think there's more a sense of relief and excitement at what is in our futures. We'd rather part as great friends and we just think it's time to retire the band name.

Unfortunately, there are those people out there who have, for whatever reason, spread bullshit or talked shit about us to other bands or to the bars and clubs. It's tough overcoming some of the preconceptions of some people involved in the music scene around here.

So there ya go. We have 7 more gigs remaining, including the May 15 SA ROCKS benefit May 15 and we're cancelling our July shows so everyone can move on comfortably.

Just wanted to let our friends and fans know what was up and wanted to thank each and every one of you who has made this such a great ride since 2001.

Please come out and join us as we close out a great chapter in our musical lives and please support the new bands all of us are getting involved in!

We love you guys and you are the ones who have made it so much fun for so long!

Don't disband Steve. You guys play some of my best Rock Songs. But I guess you guys got to do what you guys got to do. Hey, it was nice seeing you guys when I had the chance. I hope the new band works out for you Steve. Hopefully, I will be able to see you guys last performance.

Well, Mr. Elliott, it's tough not being 23 years old if you want to succeed in this town as a musician. Now, I once tried to wear eyeliner and spike my hair up and wear all black and look like I had not a care in the world, but I saw my mortgage broker in the audience and I was embarrassed...I am old, sir. Therefore, I threw myself upon that sword when I left Alter Ego and formed DH. And I must say...it's been Heaven not worrying about how cool I have to dress or how young I have to look. All I have to do is get that Cougar over there on the other side of the bar to dance...and I've just sold countless shots to 10 men trying to return with her to her den...and nobody gives a rat's shit what we look like. They just wanna sing along and have fun. Bar makes money, we make money. And morons with the band schedule can't fuck it up for us! We play under Yuppie Rules now, my friend...and not even a bitter wise guy can make me fall off of that hangar with a tonic in my hand...hey...there's a song in there somewhere!

Here's to you and Alter Ego. Thanks for the fun we had (especially the mudfest at IPMC in New Braunfels) and the experience you gave me, and all the things you taught me about booking gigs and...ahem...personnel management.

I'm sure I'll see you down the road, and I'm sure TWS now has a place at the Stock Show & Rodeo, huh?

I'll catch one of the "Eagles" performances, my friend!

oh lawd!! This has come as a bit of a kick in the cajones to be honest with you. You, to me, are the quintecential band leader and didn't think you would ever disband like this. I, however, know what it's like. Deja Vu was my baby and I helped it grow and put in my energy going to PTA meetings and kicking ass when needed but felt like shit when my kid wanted to move on and join the army. Dude, I would love to play with you. I am def going to come out before you call it. BUT! Not to be a spoiled sport, I want you to think a little more about what you're doing... I regret every day. I don't want you to do the same. Your friend! J

Good luck my friend!! I was looking into your new band and I must say that those guys are serious musicians. I see that they are looking for a singer and I think if you guys find one, you guys will be even better!! Actually, I know a singer that can sing the stuff you guys play. But after seeing they don't want no "dopers" in the band, he's out of the question. Lol! If nothing comes up, I'll be at the Trap on June 5th. I wanted to come out to check you guys out at the sarocks party, but we were added to a show at the last minute, which I'm now regretting we took. Take care and See you soon! Warren/DMC

Well WTF? I finally got you guys back @ The Trap after a few years of being absent...we're just a neighborhood venue, & couldn't pay big bucks for all the bands we wanted as there is never a cover charge. I wish all of you much luck in your new ventures...and can't wait to see you June 1st at The Trap...definately a bittersweet performance.
See you soon.
