I felt a strong urge to smash this guys head against the pavement after reading his dipshitted comments on The Pod. When one doesn't understand The Pod one is truly a dumb motherfucker.

Well written article, very thoughtful. Dood spent alot of this time seriously getting into this. I need to say though........Does anyone else feel as though he hasnt been there for the past 15+ years? He has an obviously negative feel for "the Pod" and with statements like:

", but in this case the fans themselves are the ones that stopped All Request Live from being a spectacular opportunity for the band."

I give him props though in the same way I give props to the guy who did a movie about Moore's "The Watchmen"; Perhaps he did the best that could have been done.

Great article, really. What are you going to do next, now that this guy's pinned all this down ...

The old adage, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit" comes to mind; wherein, brilliance illuminates the human condition and bullshit has an essential compelling otherness, creating fascination, that which is not understood, has no assigned place, but a charm that demands inclusion, a new problem, broadening the scope.
Damn. The flangy quality of that bass makes the walls of my colon detach from what had formerly adhered ... gotta go!

That, in a nutshell, is basically what I was shooting for when I wrote the intro. The reason why I wrote the discography review is because I was a fan first. Ween and their music have always been a very interesting puzzle; in some ways baffling, but part of the fun in trying to figure it out. I tried to present that impression in the intro, and then offered my reasonably critical analysis of the albums thereafter. I hope that's ultimately how it came across.

I met Aaron and Mickey at a bar in 1993/1994. They said they were both named Dean and that they worked a loading dock. Aaron seemed like the one I'd want to hear talk, but Mickey wouldn't STFU. Later I fell in love with "Voodoo Lady," bought "Chocolate and Cheese," and, looking at the jewel case materials, discovered I had been put-on.
I bought a lot of their discs, subsequently lost in my divorce, as I presented them as evangelical love-gifts to my husband (I'm not sure he liked them all that much, just like, in the end, I'm not even sure he preferred women -- perhaps that was all a put-on).
I enjoyed their spot-on mimickry, the masterful composition, and Aaron's voice. If he wanted to evoke Gordon Lightfoot, he'd do it better than Gordon Lightfoot, if he wanted to o a muezzin call, he'd do it ... The stuff on C&C reminded me of the soundtrack of my childhood, AM-WFIL and later FM-WMMR ... this kid got it.
I saw them perform, most memorable at the Roxy in Boston, 1998, and later at the Hampton Ballroom in NH. Mickey has a joybuzzer exuberance and a drive to perform; but sometimes he goes too far, to a lady's mind. Aaron will always be someone I can't get enough of.

Bill,

It's a great review.  I read the whole thing.  I've loved Ween for years.  I first got introduced to them through "The Pod" in about 1996.  That may be the basis of my affinity for "The Pod."  I don't know.  But I do know that I love that album much more now than I did when I first heard it.  Listen to it in every conceivable state of mind.  Please.  You have such a good grasp of their entire catalogue that it's a shame you don't appreciate "The Pod."  I mean, "Pollo Asado"!  Come on! Brilliance!

Regardless, thanks for your review.  It helped deepen my understanding of the demon god and his progeny.

It's nice but honestly, you guys and your catalogue rock no matter who flaps their gums or spills their ink. Completely original and unimitable. Best Band Ever = You Fockers

Great reviews, I can't believe he didn't mention If You Could Save Yourself or Woman and Man!
Still looking forward to the next release and an Australian tour!

This Is for BILL: Ween has kept their music simple and to the point.  There Is no hidden message or meaning behind their tunes, It Is what It Is!  I been a loyal fan of the boognish since 94 and to be honest I hope ween never goes mainstream!  Anyone remember when ween tour'd as the jimmy wilson group?  Or heard of the ass jammers?  Here It Is; fry acid and listen to the pod.  Get heroin and listen to Pure Guava.  Eat shrooms and listen to Chocolate and cheese.  Did anyone go to the ween show In st louis In 07 at the pagent????
