Suzzan, you are the artist and coming from your friend, fellow artist (and also art collector) its completely understandable that you will not sell some of your pieces that are so much part of you, that they are you! However, there is something to consider: there are those that LOVE your work, and you have a large body of work already, that its wise to offer them for sale, and consider the power of the art that it has on others, besides yourself, you know. Its really hard to give advice and the lot,
I try to stay out of people's business and affairs, what they do with their art is their personal choice, but I can tell you that there are SERIOUS collectors out there that WOULD CHERISH your work like the Gold of Time itelsef, and its your gift to the world, you know. Your Emotions, your pain, your surrealism, your fears, etc, etc, are your art and there are so many of us that really love and dig what you do and create, its cool to see your art from other's eyes and feel their feelings and emotions and power that your work has over people, you know. Also, its a matter of the logistics that you create in providing your original art for sale to others, but I can tell you that once the paint is already drying on your canvases, the potential collectors out there DO WANT THEM!!! you know

HI KEITH,  I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING, AND I KNOW THAT OTHERS WOULD LOVE AND CHERISH MY WORK, BUT ITS JUST SO HARD FOR ME TO LET GO OF SUCH EMOTIONAL PIECES, I'VE SOLD PLENTY OF COMMERCIAL ART, YOU KNOW LANDSCAPES, DOGS, FLOWERS ETC, AND I WAS OVER THE MOON WHEN THEY SOLD, NOT GIVING THEM A SECOND THOUGHT!! .. BUT WITH THESE..PEOPLE ARE PURCHASING PARTS OF MY DEEPEST MIND, AND I KNOW I HAVE TO SELL ORIGINAL WORK, BUT IT STILL ACTUALLY HURTS TO SEND THEM AWAY FOREVER!!..BUT ANYWAY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR WONDERFUL WORDS OF LOVE AND SUPPORT, YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I ALWAYS APPRECIATE THEM!!!....

I think most artists would understand this, Suzzan.  You are selling a part of yourself, and that's very hard to do - especially when so much of yourself goes into these pieces...Slowly being owned by other people.  Memories and personal conflicts and personal understandings.....
....But.... these will be your best and most authentic pieces!  So very wantable. Inevitable.....It's like... selling ones own child (which I have only had to do a couple of times. LOL!)....
....I hope YOU at least keep a fine archival print of the ones that have to leave you.........
