Pine Cone Alley began in 1989 as a cassette label. From 89 until about 1995 I released over ten hours of self-recorded four track cassette tapes. I get a lot of inquiries about these tapes= trust me, they are amateurish and low-fi and very embarrassing to me today. If you are a fan of my work with Old Time Relijun, they would be interesting only from a purely academic standpoint. Do you want anyone reading your high school diary? I feel the same way about a lot of the music I made in that era.

Old times notwithstanding, I have now decided to make available to the public certain recordings from the Pine Cone Alley catalog. Most of these are much more recent and feature my work in the realm of free improvisation. Please feel free to inquire if you have specific questions. In the future, I may make other recordings available as well, so check back from time to time.

All product listed in reverse order of recording/release dates, all products are CDR guarunteed against defect, packaged in HAND PAINTED covers. Some websites have sold work of mine in photocopied covers- this is the ONLY way to get the hand-painted covers, directly from me. I am not making these products available at this time to ANY other mailorder, website, record store, etc.

This is a unique way to buy directly from an artist. You are not just getting home-made music, but a very nice and affordable piece of art as well. Other artwork is also available for sale, but at higher prices. Please inquire directly if interested.

PINE CONE ALLEY CATALOG

YAMANEKO IMPROVISATIONS Arrington de Dionyso and Tori Kudo
Recorded February 2007 in Matsuyama, Japan at Tsuru's home studio. Arrington on bass clarinet, voice, and objects, Tori Kudo (Maher Shalal Hash Baz) on a gorgeous 19th century pump organ. Also includes a live session in Kyoto recorded one week earlier.

INTUITION, SCIENCE, AND SEX Arrington de Dionyso and Thollem McDonas
Recorded August 2007 at Nicholas Taplin's SILO studio in Portland, Oregon. Bass Clarinet and piano duos, meditative and raga-modal inspired. Very deliberate conceptual improvisations, taking one note at a time, and all the notes in between the notes.

THE TRUE FOLK SOUNDS OF ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO
Solo album follow up to "Breath of Fire"- exploring lip, tongue, and throat strategies for voice and contralto clarinet. Wild and sprawling sound poetry, recorded by Nicholas Taplin. (A vinyl version is also available from Melted Mailbox)

PSICOLOMAGICOLO Arrington de Dionyso and Nusch Werchowska
Recorded in Rennes, France in 2005. Bass Clarinet and voice, Nusch plays piano with many innovative inside preparations and amplified micro-sounds. Excellent recording quality, "Europe meets America" approaches to free improvisation and energy.

ATAQUE HOLOTROPICAL Arrington de Dionyso and Gust Burns
Piano and bass clarinet duos recorded at Gallery 1412 in Seattle, high velocity and deliberately pounding and hard-pushing dense improvisation. Maximalist rather than minimalist. "ALL CAPS"

SATURN RETURNS Arrington de Dionyso and Thollem McDonas
Piano and bass clarinet freeform and wild duo set recorded in Seattle, 2004 or 2005? Includes one alto saxophone improvisation at the end.

LUNA Arrington de Dionyso, Greg Campbell, Christian Asplund, and Derek M. Johnson
Live set recorded in Olympia sometime in 2005 I think...kind of strange recording quality, but really nice set with cello, drums, viola, voice, bass clarinet and piano.

SOL Arrington de Dionyso, Cat Lamb, Derek Johnson, Tom Swafford, Thollem McDonas
Kind of "Machine Gun"-esque in parts- all over the place high intensity improvisation with piano, cello, viola, violin, bass clarinet. Recorded at the 11th Annual Olympia Festival of Experimental Musics in 2005.

BREAKING THE VESSELS Arrington de Dionyso and Garth Powell
Really excellent quality recording with Bay Area percussion master Garth using every single gong he owns, or at least half of them. A vinyl edition was released by French label Galerie Pache.

ABRAXASAXOPHONIC SMOOTH JAZZ VAGINA
Legendary and long out-of-print conceptual solo album, recorded in 2001 and originally released on the Friends Forever label NGWTT from Denver. Album consists of extremely overdriven horns splattered on top of distorted signal from local smooth jazz radio station. Very intense and grating sound. Also includes some throatsinging pieces and some tracks without smooth jazz at the end.

SONGBOOK VOL. I Old Time Relijun
Long out of print, often sought-after by collectors, the very very first Old Time Relijun album was recorded on December 1st, 1996. This is a CDR version, but exactly the same as the original, with the original popcorn bag packaging and paper cover (not a handmade painting like the others listed here). Includes the four track bonus versions of songs, some of which were also included on "Varieties of Religious Experience".

ORGA AR by Arrington de Dionyso
The very last of my solo four track tapes released in 1994, just before the formation of Old Time Relijun. Features some material that later became part of the band's early live set. "Earthquake", "Happyland", and "Black Cat" also appeared on the Varieties of Religious Experience compilation. ORGA AR was the original context, about 25 songs in 60 minutes!

WAKARIMASEN- BOOK OF DRAWINGS $10
Specially designed for 2007 tour of Japan, features dozens of drawings presented in a collaged format with ironically applied found Japanese quotations cut from Manga. Only about five copies left!

GHOST WALRUS UNDER MOONLIGHT: Drawings made during travels in Argentina, Sweden, and Alaska in 2005. $10
Only about 3 or 4 copies left of this one, too.
