If you have not noticed yet, we have all been on a journey, and ultimately in order to know what we need to do on a journey we have to talk to some people that have been on a journey that we are about to go on. We have been freed from many things, now we have to stay out/away from the things that have been holding us down. We look in Exodus 14 we find Moses and the children of Israel embarking on the beginning of their journey. There are three things that you must beware of while on this journey: the Attack, how we REACT to the Attack, and the FACTS in the attack.
1) Attack- v8 "And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel…"
We find there are two reasons that we must be aware of the enemies attack
· Mathew 12:43-45 YOU LOOK GOOD. You look better than you did before.
· 1 Peter 1:7, James 1:3-4, Job 1:12 Faith untried cannot be trusted. Understand that once deliverance has taken place in your life, God places his seal of approval on you with a test. The test proves that you've already been given what is required to pass.
2) The Reaction: You So Stupid – Exodus 14:10-12
- We get ourselves into situations, because we suffer from something and then we blindly diagnose it.
- Instead of going to the word, we go to the world for an answer. Here's the order:
- We get stuck in a situation, emotion, mishap, disaster, hardship, etc.
- WE try to find a way to solve it; give us happiness
- Find out that isn't where we need to be
- Pray for God to save us
- He saves us = DELIVERANCE
- We come across the exact same thing again, and we go right back.
- Relationships, Drugs, Partying, Depression
- Children of Egypt went through the same rotation.
- Genesis 47:18-20 – Israel is without food
- Exodus 1 – Israel is severely mistreated – Slaves, brick makers, babies killed, field workers
- Exodus 12:30-31 – The people are set free.
- Exodus 14:10-12 – Israel wants to go back into it
- What happens when we turn back
- Luke 9:62 – No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.
- Genesis 19 – Lot and family is freed from Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot's wife looks back, and turns into a pillar of salt
3) Fact- v13&14 "And Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today…v14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.'"
· The Promise God made- Exodus 6:6-9 He said that He will deliver the Children of Israel from Egypt and lead them to the of Canaan, and they will know Him as Lord
· The fact is this: God has promised you things beyond your problems.
· This means whatever is put in your way is only to enhance the promise.
o The Red Sea had to be before the children of Israel as a means of deliverance
· The Plan- Exodus 14:14 "The Lord will fight for you,"
o God sets up situations where only He can provide
o 2Chronicles 20:15- "the battle is not yours, but God."
§ This puts your battle/struggle/problem into perspective: This God who is fighting for you
· The Peace- Exodus 14:14"and you shall hold your peace."
o Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the ability to function while in it.
o Philippians 4:7 "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and minds through Christ Jesus."
§ In order for God to give you a peace that surpasses all understanding, you must be in a situation that you cannot understand.
o Colossians 3:15 "let the peace of God rule within your heart"
· Isaiah 43:1&2- Keep this promise in mind… God knows you!
