Washington, D. C. [..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />March 27, 2007] – World music's signature group, The Abjeez, today announced its 2007 American Tour, "Who's Yo' Daddy?" (Baabaat Keeyeh?)
The tour opens in Washington, D.C. on April 26 at Eyebar, New York on April 28, 2007 at Kimmel Center, NYU, and continues on to San Francisco May 4 at the Great American Music Hall.
"Who's Yo' Daddy?" tour features songs from The Abjeez' break-out album "Hameh" - including the track from their DVD "Edeaa", chosen by New York's Tribeca Film Festival for the short film competition. In Washington, D.C. (4/26) and New York (4/28) there will be an after performance party releasing Abjeez re-mix CD, "Who's Yo' Daddy?" varied for the dance floor! Already a draw name throughout Europe, The Abjeez make world music for the wired world: flamenco hot, reggae cool, salsa sassy. From the easy bop of "Geryeye Mard" to the bossanova yearning of "Cheraa" or the lashing passion of "Eddeaa" the Abjeez blend the rhythms of the world into one great braza.
Sisters Safoura and Melody Safavi – the very name Abjeez is Iranian slang for "sister" – are true world citizens: born in Iran, raised in Sweden, at home in Paris or Mumbai or San Francisco. Little sister Safoura trained in flamenco guitar at Spain's prestigious Fundacion Christina Heeren del arte flamenco; now she's the Abjeez composer and lead guitarist. Lyricist Melody draws inspiration from their families' ancient Persian lineage.
The Abjeez have put together a kaleidoscope back up band. Bassist Erland Hofgaard hales from Sweden, as do flamenco guitarist Johan Moberg and drummer Robin Cochrane. Percussion comes from Chile, in the person of Paulo Murga. Arrangements stay in the family, though, in Abjee brother Sufi's capable hands.
See the Video "Eddeaa" at the Tribecca Film Festival before Bahaman Ghobadi's new film "Half Moon" on 4/27 (7:45pm), 4/30 (9:30pm), 5/1 (3:00pm) and 5/4 (11:00am).
