Gothtronic :
Dexy Corp_ is a French industrial metal band that in
their sound grabs back on old pioneers like Ministry and Skinny Puppy.
With regards to electronic experiment and overall dark atmosphere it
connects to Skinny Puppy but musically it is closer to Ministry. The
band also has resemblances to fellow countrymen Punish Yourself. The
guitar riffs are sharp and the rhythms are machine like. The tracks
contain catchy moments but the level of songwriting is not equally
strong at every moment. Highlights are ‘Proselytes’, ‘A Needle in Each
Arm’ and ‘Death Plastic Surgery’ but also a slower track like
‘Anhedonie’, which reminds a bit of the heavier work of Gary Numan, and
an instrumental track like ‘Dark Bliss’, manage to make a good
impression. It surely isn’t original as such but it is done well.
Certainly if you take int account that this is the debt of this band
hailing from the French city of ..
..
Tours....
. Fragmentation is a nice tip for fans of industrial metal and who
knows it becomes a promise for the future. Fragmentation however
doesn’t (yet) justify such a conclusion. We are curious to what this
band will come up with next in the future.

Side-line music magazine :
Ladies and gentlemen here comes the latest sensation from France and the Black Rain label and the entire underground scene as well! This affirmation sounds like
a challenge and especially when speaking about a debut album. Well, let
me tell you this; if you think that Punish Yourself was already one of
the hardest bands from France
they'll now be reduced to second place (although on stage they'll for
sure remain unique). Dexy Corp_® brings a devastating and totally
annihilating crossover style, which can be also defined as cyberpunk!
The heavy blasts of guitar running through this album blow everything
away. "Fragmentation" sounds somewhere in between Ministry and Skinny
Puppy. The songs are fast and furious, pretty comparable to a steam
train on speed! This band hailing from Tours doesn't compose music for
sissies. They sound like a combat unit of cyberpunks! Just pay some
attention for songs like "A Needle In Each Arm", "Faceless" or yet
"Ghost Connection" and you'll regret not to have fastened your
seatbelt! Dexy Corp_® is pure violence, but besides of the atomic
rhythmic and merciless guitar parts they also bring some irresistible
electro parts. They're more like an addition to the compositions, and
are quite well crafted as well. Especially the "Dark Bliss"-cut brings
a nice twist between machine and guitars. This type of music also
requests a devilish way of singing and that's exactly what the singer
(Doctorkrank) seems to have understood. He's screaming like an enraged
patient although perfectly controls his instrument (commonly known as
voice!). You better have to be experienced with this type of music
otherwise you'll be dead meat!

Reflections of darkness :
According to a statement at the official MySpace, DEXY CORP_ from
France was influenced by Japanese science fiction movies as well as by
projects such as MINISTRY, SKINNY PUPPY and NINE INCH NAILS. Founded in
2002, the four-piece released the EP ..Jigger.. one year later.
..Fragmentation.. is the first full-length album of DEXY CORP_ and will
be released at the label Black Rain that announced the French band as a
representative of brute Industrial sounds following the tradition of
bands like DIE KRUPPS and KMFDM.
Definitely, the all in
all 11 tracks aren’t the right soundtrack for a child’s birthday party
or for people who would like to calm down and relax. Heavy guitar riffs
are connected to distorted vocals resulting in a threatening soundscape
that will cause a thunderstorm inside your four walls. The opener
..Overlord.. begins with a technoid up-tempo beat that is soon joined by
an e-guitar and the raspy speech singing climaxing in a hellish chorus.
..Faceless.. is less infernal and fitted out with rather dragging
guitars, but still conjures up images of the end of days. Every now and
then, the vocals reminded me a bit of ZEROMANCER-vocalist Alex
Møklebust.
The instrumental track ..Dark Bliss.. contains some
synth gimmicks and drill-like sounds. The tenth song ..Ghost Connection..
beats with a high speed Punk-like rhythm and extremely distorted
vocals. Though the DEXY CORP_ style isn’t made for wimps, its brute
tunes are somehow catchy and perfectly suitable to release the animal
inside. The guys know how to make you let it all hang out and I would
like to experience them live in concert, as I can imagine that their
music will blow the audience away due to its energizing and aggressive
character.

Chain D.L.K :
One of the leathery boot of the French band Dexy Corp.’s
driving its sole into the fertile grounds harvested by some American
industrial/rock/metal bands such as KMFDM or Nine Inch Nails, the other
one’s sinking into the present-day social plot with an enjoyable and
polemical tone. “The world has seen the great show of the heal
apocalypse [sometimes quoted…] by cauterizing its wounds” growls the
harsh and scratchy throat of Jean-Baptiste Dropsy aka Doctrokrank on
the blasting maelstrom unleashed by the majestic walls erected by Denis Malbrancke aka Noisynism throughout his distorted and effected guitars,
tank-like smashing trucked drumming by Olivier Pesquié aka AbsynthetiK
and propelled by the infectious basslines by Erwan Ropars aka Ersatz
and the high-voltage feeded machines of Maxime Brachet aka Nix. These
nice folks brought their name from the slang denomination of
dextroamphetamine, an isomer of amphetamine largely used in the
treatment of narcolepsy and attention deficits, unveiling their
“mission”: waking up the sleeping consciousness of the listener both by
rhythmical noisy fusillades featuring a stylistical piercing of some
industrial-metal legends such as Ministry or (the first and maybe the
best) Pantera and provocative lyrics, whose target seems to be the
totalitarian false belief “homologation-ist” system, rapidly devouring
mankind and its more genuine values.
They’ve chosen a fitted musical language to do it best and some of the most corrosive tracks of this records
such as Lie is Life, Anhédonie, Faceless or Death Plastic Surgery (the
highlights of this Fragmentation and in our modest opinion, the best in
fostering the evoked fragmentation) sound more venomous than trickery
oratorical tricks as well!!! You could wonder when listening to the
easygoing skill of the whole band in evoking industrial sceneries, an
uproar of noisy and poisoned sounds concocting in an almost dramatic
way able to graze the thick skin of the most hypocritical contemporary
society. You’ll enjoy Fragmentation at first glance if you dwell upon
details of the artwork (I really appreciated all those references to
explanatory notes of a PH-blister, including -!- the decision to write lyrics
with a minuscule grey font on grey background…you’ll need a lens or
maybe a microscope to read them!!!) as well as the ones of their music…
A promising debut album!
You’ll praise for taking part to one of their energizing live stages
after fucking pills (and useless vaccines as well!!) or just look to
your financial advisor to buy stock-options and privileged shares of
the Dexy Corp.!!!

industrial rock :
Dexy
Corp proves once again industrial metal music can be well done in
Europe too. Fragmentation it's the second album by this band
giving a reason to place them next to the best French industrial rock
or industrial metal fames kind of Punish Yourself, Obszon Geschopf,
Moshpit, Prime Sinister or Treponem Pal reunited in 2007.
I
had a variety of associations while listening to this album so thus I
gave examples in this review to let you compare and get interested in
Dexy Corp tunes.
The album begins with the song 'Overlord',
which in fact introduces a listener to music filling the whole CD in.
There are some samples similar to those used by Ministry in the song
intro and the beginning of the next song features something I came
across listening to a Skrew track tho it's all kept in a digital
hardcore style. Same as A Needle In Each Arm. You'll find a lot of
chaos, noises and fast rate in this track. I can hear some possible
automatic drums, very fast and somewhat pushy. I wish there was some
rock influenced drummer to help the song get a deeper & powerful
meaning with a real drum kit! 'Anhedonie' sounds like if inspired
by Acumen Nation music with its drum'n'bass dynamics and
characteristic vocals. 'Beat Me' is angry and burning like most of
old Bile songs with incurable speed and a bit distorted vocals.
My
ear was attracted somewhere in the middle of 'Faceless' song thanks
to its heavier and looped guitars with kind of demonic atmosphere. It
recalls echoes of music by Numb, The Sect, Testify or at least Quake
2 soundtrack! ;) Reverb adds a deeper vibe to the refrains but
repetitive phrases get some infinity effect. Heavy metal guitars and
trance rhythm will make you come back to the song to listen to it
again. It's my first favourite on the CD.
'Dark Bliss' reminds
me some Out Out tunes but much more aggressive with addition of
things you've heard from Punish Yourself for the nearest
comparison. 'Lie Is Life' has Bile-like atmosphere as well, yelled
aloud and based on quick rhythm. The next song contains a bite of
music typical for Acumen Nation and Cyanotic, so the new wave of
industrial music or even digital hardcore. 'Incandescent World'
should draw attention because it's both melodic and harsh with a
catchy refrain. A front runner number 2.
Then 'Ghost
Connection' comes out and to me it's the best industrial metal drive
on this CD. Tight song construction and powerful meaning. Fat beat
with rave samples and a cloud of guitar riffs and drums filling the
gapes remind me tunes by Bile, KMFDM and Jerk a bit too. It's
definitely the best song on the album and a reason of why you should
put an interest into Dexy Corp's music right away! I listen to such
songs most often privately and they stand at the top of my interest.
Great track for an industrial metal party too. People who prefer
more... ehm... electro tunes but still with guitar riffs interlaced
may like 'Death Plastic Surgery'. Reminds me some Suicide Commando
track empowered with guitars and somewhat growled vocals. I guess
Acumen Nation fans will be satisfied as well. There's a hidden
track (#12) on the album too kept in a digital hardcore style, very
aggressive but it's not caused by guitar riffs but quick beat of the
drums. There's Acumen Nation on my mind again! ;)
Dexy Corp is
a band well known in both Europe and overseas. They promote this new
album playing shows on French club stages. The band improves with
every song so I hope to hear more good stuff in the future. The
recent shows with Punish Yourself might have made a mark on their
tunes so that you can hear a fusion of drums, guitars and vocals in
Dexy Corp songs so characteristic for PY. The tracks are short (less
than 5 minutes) and the whole CD is worth of a listen so don't
hesitate and visit the band at their Myspace profile

to stream the songs and decide if you want them! (NINa)

industrial rock :
French
band Dexy Corp have released a pretty heavy album in 'Fragmentation'.
This record is a no nonsense ride through all of the things you love
about industrial metal: shredding guitars, heavy beats, distorted
vocals and slick synths. There is certainly a lot of energy and
talent on display here, and the band clearly enjoys treating
listeners to something hard and loud.
Overall the album has an
emphasis on ultra heaviness with its shredding guitar riffs that
wouldn't be out of place on any Ministry album (or Pantera for that
matter). There is a distorted aggression here that gets the blood
pumping and the adrenaline flowing. The aggressive vocals by
Doctorkrank (Jean-Baptiste Dropsy) really add to the industrial feel
of the band, as his distorted voice seems to fit right into the fray
of electronic ass kickery. I particularly enjoyed the screaming
chorus of the CD's opener, 'Overlord'. My only wish is that the vocal
tracks had been slightly raised as I had trouble understanding some
of the lyrics.
There is also a lot of cool programming on this
record as well. The intro to 'Anhedonie' caught my attention right
away with it's cool filtered loops, and phat drum tones. I also
really enjoyed the rockin' outro to 'Proselytes' in all it's head
banging glitchiness. Throughout the record there are moments of
digital manipulation like this that sound really cool and tickle the
eardrums. Also I must say I am a big fan of the drum tones. I just
can't get enough of tracks like 'Ghost Connection', and 'Beat Me' for
their hard as nails stadium rock kits.
For those that love to
thrash out, there is certainly much here to feast on. The drums are
banging, the tones are phat, and there is certain loudness to the
album that makes it pound out of the speakers even when you have it
turned down low. There may even be a little too much heaviness to the
album, as it is in the quieter more refined moments that Dexy Corp
really shine. These mellower moments make the heavy parts even cooler
and balance the album out in a nice way. It also gets difficult to
differentiate between some of the tracks after awhile when the dial
is constantly set to 11. This is the band's first full-length
release, and overall it is a very strong effort. I look forward to
hearing how the band will refine their sound on their future albums.
Also, I'm very curious to see how they will turn it up to 12. (James
Chapple)
Metal Storm :
I'm not especially into Indus music but I like some bands like Ministry
and I'm proud to introduce today a new band from France which will
maybe become a reference in the genre if they follow the way that
they've taken with their first release "Fragmentation". Yes definitely
this first release is full of good things and I think that the Indus
fans should have a look at it as soon as possible.
Big riffs, blasting rhythms, electronic sounds and of course a really
dark and tortured voice are the main ingredients of the recipe of the
music of Dexy Corp_. The good thing here is that the songs are hypnotic
(that's normal for Indus) but never too repetitive and this variation
can be really pleasant for someone who is not too much into this genre.
Don't worry this is real Indus and the fans of the genre will not find
something too influenced by other Metal genres but I really think that
a basic metalhead who is not afraid of electronic sound but who is not
yet into Indus will have the possibility to enjoy the genre through
this release. The songs are heavy and loud, dark and oppressing and the
general "metallic" ambiance is just excellent but it's not boring and
the fact that some songs can be fast like some other can be mid-tempo
is one other interesting point of the album. "Fragmentation" is not
linear!
The musicians are solid and I really like the voice of Doctorkrank_ who
is a classy Indus singer. It can be a bit whiny on a side but it fits
perfectly to the genre and gives a cool crazy and distressed
orientation to the songs. With a nice production, "Fragmentation" is a
really nice album which is maybe not super original and inventive but
which is good for a first try.
"Fragmentation" is a good surprise in the genre. As you know I'm not a
specialist of the genre but I know what Indus is and first this is
Indus and two, this is more than enjoyable! If you like Ministry or
KMFDM I think that you should have a look at this release. Don't forget
that it's a young band though but it's already a respectful one which
will do good things in the future. If you like Indus, Dexy Corp_ is a
name that you'll have to remember, the best is coming for them without
a doubt.
