from 'steph' at ZERO mags advert dept.
Hey guys, I'm reaching out to you from Zero magazine, Northern Calfornia's largest FREE alternative music magazine serving San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Sacramento, and all in between. We've been rockin' the 18-34 age demographic for 13 years and still going strong. Our magazine is available the 1st of each month both in print and online at www.zeromag.com
I've got a few ad spaces to fill in the January 1 issue of Zero with Wolfmother on the cover. I understand you guys are a local band and the budget is tight, but I'm sure I can hook you up with a good price and it's the presence you need. This would be great for any upcoming shows in January or just let the people know who The Golden Gods are.
Let me know if there's anything I can do.
Thanks, Steph -x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x- Stephanie Fedorowicz ZERO Magazine Executive Advertising Sales Rep 12 S. First St, 3rd Floor, ..300 San Jose, CA 95113 408.971.8515 http://www.zeromag.com -x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-
so i wrote back...
wow, i don't know where to start.
first off, we're hardly a 'local band'. we're from the bay area, but we played the majority of our shows on the road. we have a record in stores nation wide and have gotten some amazing support from (and did dates on the road with) bands that we looked up to. (the dwarves, zeke, supersuckers, priestess, three inches of blood, the bellrays etc)
your mag gave us a paragraph in a local section in november 2003. and then never wrote about us again until you reviewed our record in 2006. there was not one word in ZERO MAG about our journey from point A (playing 'The Blank Club', a mediocre venue in san jose, ca - run by the same guy that runs ZERO MAG) to point B (our record company sending you a free cd). you could have reviewed shows, you could have done a feature story, you could have mentioned our name once in those three years, but did not.
secondly we broke up in sept.
so if you're trying to convince me that you're a happenin' mag that's got it's finger on the pulse of music, you just failed. for you to come begging a dead band for advertising dollars confirms what i already knew: you and your mag are fucking clueless.
why don't you run along and do another story about the odd numbers.*
-rick davis.
*the odd numbers are a san jose, ca band that's been around for like 15 years and they're in pretty much every other issue of their mag.
