Chapter two... Meetings…
“Ahhh…” A loud yawn escaped Aya mouth as she walked along the sidewalk.
A red, orange, pink and purple glow illuminated the area of the world
she resided on. The clouds painted an awing picture in the sky.
A slight ominous chilling wind began to sweep the earth as the sun
began to rest for another day to come. Aya lightly shivered at the cold
wind.
“Another storm tonight…” She spoke in a whisper as the darkening clouds appeared opposite of the setting sun.
She was in need of her weaponry. Something she did not possess at the
time. It would clearly also take her about thirty minutes to reach the
facility and another fifteen to even get through all of the clearance
and checkpoints.
“Beep. Beep. Beep.”
“Doctor… Aya
here.” She spoke in a soft tone, though she was bit shocked that he
called after she thought of going back to the lab.
“Aya we need you back at the lab tonight!” He seemed highly worried.
“I’ll pick up my guns tomorrow. I am only suppose to monitor a man I
can not even find, besides the others are out doing their jobs…” Aya
spoke in an annoyed voice while walking to a local grocery store.
“I don’t care if there are others out there, there’s still a high
chance one of them will still try to attack you! You can’t do anything
without your guns.” He huffed at her in anger.
“Well then. I guess I am no better than any other human without a gun…”
“Click.” Aya immediately hung up the phone in anger, then she shoved it back into her bag.
“That girl… She’s getting more and more moody by the second…” Case threw the phone to ground, shattering it in anger.
Immediately he was back to the computer typing out a message to be
spread out on base. He needed a car, guns, and anything else needed to
catch Aya and bring her back to base to ensure her safety for the whole
night.
“CASE!” Zei came through the door. “This is absurd.”
“I need to protect Aya at all costs. I need her here till I can get
Nero Kinsblood’s DNA. Do you understand?” His eyes seemed wild, almost
delusional.
“You want to inject his DNA in to her also…” She
stayed quiet as she clenched her hands. “That could kill her!” She
yelled loudly.
“It’s a chance I am willing to take. If she
can pull through she’ll be powerful than anything. No emotion, only a
machine that listens to its master. Only I will be able to control
her.” He lightly began to chuckle as he turned towards the computer.
“You’re insane…” Zei calmly spoke as she walked out the door. It
slammed shut as she cleared away from it. A few people paced the halls.
She grabbed the nearest phone.
“Hello. This is Prof. Mackenzie K. Mierick. Identification number 86127. “
“What can we do for you Prof. Mierick.” The male voice spoke back through the phone.
“I am to report Doctor Case I. Razerahm for being emotionally and mentally unstable.”
“We will place him in a hold cell for a 48 hour watch, after that was have to release him back to duty.”
“I understand, and make sure his plans are cancelled. If not, he will ruin a very important project.”
“Y-Yes ma’am.”
Zei then hung up the phone immediately. A figure came into her vision.
It seemed that Case came out of his room. A slight grin upon Zei face
was present as he walked closer. His attention was focused on the two
soldiers that made their way towards him. Case felt something strange
about them. They were not looking at him with respect but with hungry
eyes. The Zei came to his view. Her light little smirk smeared upon her
lips.
“You…” He glared at her, while pausing in the hall, as
his eyes drifted towards the two men. They too paused and looked at
each other, At the same pace the two men took off down the hall. Case
quickly began to run as he noticed they were really going after him.
“You will thank me one day doctor…” Zei smiled as she walked from the laboratory.
* * *
“I can’t find him anywhere!” Aya growled at herself, as she lightly punched a nearby wall.
The darkness had already spread over the world. This time Aya decided
to stay near the lit parts of the city, to keep any strange things from
her. Certain noises told her that the others were out doing their jobs.
None of them knowing who she was even if she walked plainly in front of
them.
“Meow!” A cat’s noise tingled at her ears.
“Hm?” She looked near and opening of an alleyway. Her eyes peered
around the light till she saw a black kitten huddling between a box and
trash can right outside of the alleyway.
“Mew!” It called even louder.
“I suppose you lost your mother…” Aya crouched down. The kitten hid
behind the trash can as it peeked out curiously. Aya placed her hand
out near the kitten. It popped behind the trash can again. Aya waited
patiently as the kitten finally began to sniff at her hand.
“See… I won’t hurt you.” Aya cooed calmly to the small animal, with a calming smile upon her face.
The kitten began to lightly lick her hand, then gnaw on it. Aya could
tell the thing was hungry, so without notice she caught it up in her
hand. It yelped out in surprise, especially when water began to drip
upon it from the beginning rain.
“Here stay in here and you
will be fine.” Aya opened her messenger bag, as she arranged her items
around, even moved her light jacket to make sure nothing would harm or
alert the kitten.
He lightly popped his head out of the side
was she walked. Its blue eyes curious looking up at her, but retreating
when her hand came near to tap him upon the head. A light giggle came
from Aya at it’s odd behavior. Never did she have an animal in all her
years, but she most definitely curious in wanting one. Right now seemed
like a good time to start.
“Cat food… Cat food…” Aya repeated to herself as she stopped at a food mart near her hotel.
There stood a line of dry and canned foods. Aya looked at them
dumbfounded. Never had she had an animal and she was going to take one
in. Even she had no idea what the Hell she had to be thinking as she
stood there reading each label that said anything about cats.
“Just acquired a new cat?” A male voice spoke from behind her curious.
“Uh huh…” She dared not look over to the man as her focus was upon reading the labels.
“Here.” A can hover before as she noticed the man was directly behind
her hovering over her. He had to be quite tall, even though most people
were taller than her.
“Special Kitten formula.” She read under the brands name. “How did you know I have-”
“Mew…” Aya froze when she heard its noise coming from behind her. She
instantly spun around and saw a dark haired man smiling at her as he
caressed the small animal in his grasped. The kitten lightly purred at
his soft touch.
“He seemed very antsy to get out of your bag there.” The man smiled calmly with green eyes, almost hazel-like.
“I see…” Aya looked around and noticed that the store clerk paid very
little attention to the two as he read through a magazine.
“So I assume this is your first time owning an animal?” He placed the cat into her arms.
“Yes it is…” She juggled the cat around as it would not at all sit still. “But it seems I’m doing a terrible job already…”
“Just stop jerking around, He’s just trying to get comfortable.” The man lightly chuckled behind his long hair.
“…” She paused and waited for the cat to finally nestle into her arms.
“See.” He lightly patted it upon the head.
“How do you know it’s a male?” Iced eyes met his hazel eyes.
“Oh… Well.” He lightly cough. “It’s best not to ask… A young girl like
you will find out later.” The man then looked away from her.
“A young girl like me?” Sourly she tasted those words as she had done
so many times in the past. She then turned from the man and grabbed a
few more cans, then placed the kitten back in its hiding spot within
her bag.
“Are you angry about that now?” The man asked following her to the counter.
Aya ignored him as she heaved the cans up to the counter. The man
placed his magazine away for the time being as he scanned each can.
Slightly he paused after noticing her ID, even the other man watched
curious. She had to know that an ID was not needed to by cat food.
Lightly he chuckled from behind her. Only a smirk came to her lips when
she looked back at him then at the clerk again.
“A pack of cloves also.” The man checked her ID, but shrugged his shoulders and got her a pack of cigarettes.
“$19.78 is your total.” He said after packaging her items into a bag,
except for the cigarette pack. Aya pulled out a twenty.
“You’re letting a kid by cigarettes?” The long haired man spoke from
behind her. “You shouldn’t sell them to people her age, unless they are
this tall.” His hand waving a few inches above her head.
“It
said she was twenty-one and she’s been here before…” The clerk spoke
with a shrug as he gave her his change. The clerk seemed to be in a
dazed sort of mood. Lack of sleep or depression was most likely the
cause.
“Piss off…” Aya growled as she walked past the rude giant of a man. “I’m sorry I’m not some freak giant.”
“A giant? Who me? I am only six feet… However I guess to a child I
would look quite tall.” He lightly rubbed his cheeks as his glasses
shined in the light of the store.
Aya ignored him and began
to walk out. This was some unneeded attention she wished to not have,
especially since she already had Riley annoying her once in awhile. Two
annoyances would be hell for her.
“Wait! Wait!” The man
followed her outside to the dampened street. The rain had finished its
nightly fall early. Only a sweet aroma tainted the polluted city air.
“Sir. You are really annoying me. Could you please stop following me.”
Aya spoke without turning around, but she could still hear his foot
steps behind her.
“Here. I want you to take this.” A card
flashed from his hands to in front of her face. Out of shock she
stumbled back and hit into him. His heat was amazing as it radiated off
onto her. His arms wrapped slightly around her and he pointed out his
card to her.
“You know this is a very important number for
those who really ‘know’ me…” His voice was close to her ear as he
lightly chuckled.
The card triggered her senses immediately,
then her eyes scanned it over and over again. Like ice her body began
to stiffen at the name.
“Nero… Kinsblood.” The man pulled
his arms off her with a smile as he heard her speak the words. So sweet
to his ears. Ata looked at him carefully. His disguise was perfect, not
a soul around would realize who he was, unless they knew his facial
shape, or the shapes of his face at all.
“I’ve heard some
interesting things about you little girl. It would honor me for you to
give me a call. But till then… I promise you won’t be able to find me
no matter how hard you look. I think it’s more fun to watch the people
who are trying to watch you.”
“Like Hell I’d ever call
someone like you… Wait. How do… How…?” She stood there slightly
stunned. No one was suppose to know of her, only that she was a regular
person who lived her life like any other normal person, but her job was
to find ‘cheating spouses’ as she liked to call them. Nothing different…
“Sorry. I have to go…” With one last grin he walked off into the
chilling night air, the wind sweeping in from the north. This week was
not at all going to have any pleasant days soon.
However
tonight Aya was very much so lucky. An early sleep was the best thing
she had had since living outside of the laboratory, along with the new
addition to her family, that she knew of. And the biggest luck of all
was being able to find the one man she had just been assigned to watch.
Though the bad luck of times seem to fall upon her due to the
encounters recently. The man in the suit, how the monsters act towards
her, and now this weird Nero fellow… He has even heard of her. How? It
was all she could think of. Even in her dreams Aya’s mind went wild
thinking of Nero, the dark haired man in a tuxedo, Kale’s death, and
the many monsters she killed over the years. Only nightmares plagued
her mind, stealing precious sleep from her.
It was only around noon when she heard that familiar noise go off.
“Beep. Beep. Beep.”
“Hello.” She spoke with much anger. The doctor was the last person she felt like hearing from this week.
“Ah. Good. You are awake!” A bubbly voice spoke into the phone. Aya
instantly corrected herself. The gun professor ‘was’ the last person
she would ever want to speak to again.
“Let me guess he got
you to wake me up, since it’s so much more convenient for him?” Aya
rolled over in her bed as she laid upon her back.
“Mewww…”
The noise slightly startled her, till she looked over and saw the small
kitten laying next to her on the pillow.
“You got a cat?” Zei asked in slight curiosity.
“Yeah, why? You’re not planning on saying I’m not allowed to at least
have an animal?” Aya asked in a slight frightening tone.
“Oh
I honestly don’t care, but you’ll have to bring it in. I have a soft
side for small animals. I could bring my chameleon in too and they
could play around. It would be adorable.”
“… Okay. So why
did you call?” Aya then avoided the question as she sat up, the kitten
crawling into her lap, lightly playing with a lace ribbon on her white
tank top.
“Oh… Oh! I finished your guns. Also you’ll need
to report to me if you’ve come across anything new, since the Doctor is
out on sick leave.” She spoke a bit oddly at the end. Aya noticed it
slightly, but decided to be quiet.
“I’ll be there in an hour.” And with that she hung up before a response could be spoke.
“Case never gets sick…” A whisper escaped her lips as she stared down
towards the cat in deep thought. Something felt shady to her.
* * *
“How can he put up with her rude behavior…” Zei huffed as she sat back
in Case’s chair in his work area. The door opened a few second later as
a young boy walked in.
“Ah Caliph! You’re here on time.” Zei smiled while patting the boy’s black hair.
“Please stop…” He lightly cough, but a medical face mask covered his face and nose..
‘Oh sorry about that. I always forget about your condition.” Zei then
stood up from the chair. Caliph pulled out a spray bottle and began to
spray the chair. He waited a few seconds before touching the chair, but
he soon finally sat down as his pale grey eyes fixated upon the screen.
He sprayed the keyboard a little, then began to type away after his set
waiting time.
“Are you sure you’ll be able to figure out all
of his codes?” Zei watched the small child’s hands click away like he
had never been sick.
“He might be intelligent and insane,
but there is no way he is a genius.” Caliph rolled his eyes at the
woman, then continued on typing.
Such a pale boy he was,
Zei thought. Almost grey… She slightly shivered at the thought. Only
the dead would turn to such a color. But somehow he still lived on even
if his flesh was that of a corpse.
“Hey Caliph, how old are you now?” Zei sat upon a nearby table as she monitored the child.
“Why don’t you tell me your age first?” Silver eyes never looking away from the screen.
“You can’t ask a woman such a rude question.” She huffed at him in slight anger.
“I just like a trade off, besides I already know about everyone here.
It’s my job to access thousand of files everyday on different employees
to make sure they aren’t a spy or trying to destroy the world in some
master plot…” Caliph then paused as he turned towards her.
“What is it…?” Zei hopped up curiously.
“You know I was thinking… If I was here during the X-13 project… I
would have stopped it from going any far than just being a dream.”
“Why is that?” Slight confusion was present in her voice and Caliph could tell.
“Freaks. All the good Doctor did was make freaks. They’re not human or
even… I can’t say. But still they aren’t suppose to be here. He’s
trying to be a creator, to be a God is his dream, but it seems none of
his creations even give a damn about him. The day that Alyce puts a gun
to his head-”
“You weren’t sent here to talk… Just get the
files that I requested.” Zei looked away from him as her voice became
authoritative. Such a morbid and twisted mind this boy had, Zei grew
slightly afraid of him. Caliph was definitely one she had to keep her
eyes on.
“Yes ma’am…” Caliph looked over to her with cold
eyes, they then drifted towards the computer again. He was placed here
for one purpose. To serve these cretins of, what they call, science. A
young boy he May have been, but still he was almost finished with his
teens, ready to be an adult, but his age would not release him from
such a prison. His mouth was sour of such disgusting things. This world
was falling apart. Only the next sickness could he pray and hope that
his heart would finally beat its last note.
If only God
would take him from where he sat, but he knew better. Fight… Fight, he
had to fight for his place in the world before God was pleased. Only
God was the kind one of this world that still gave a damn about him.
However ignorance was bliss at a time he was young. God was fading from
his mind… Only a black hole began to fill the void of his heart and
mind.
* * *
“Oh Alyce you are later today.” An officer at the front gate spoke when he saw her walk up.
“I got a call to get some papers.” She pulled out her military ID for the man to check, along with her finger print.
“Ah… Did you hear about what happened to Dr. Razerahm?” The soldier lightly whispered towards her.
“He’s sick?” It seemed clear to her that it was more than an illness that took the poor doctor down.
“It seems… Mentally.” The man tapped his head. “ And emotionally…”
“Excuse me?” Confusion was present upon her face as she looked at him in slight shock.
“He was called in to be under surveillance for 48 hours. They say he
went a bit crazy after staying in his room for so long during the days.
They say if you at least see the sun for a few minutes a day or more,
then you’ll be emotionally stable, but there’s rumors going around that
he’s been in that room for almost a month or more straight.”
“So what you’re saying is someone locked the doctor up… Prof. Mierick said he had to go home due to a cold…”
“Well she doesn’t want many people knowing his condition, but word
spreads fast around here. The man who got the call said it was her who
orderer for him to be put under surveillance…”
“I see… Well
it was nice knowing some gossip of the base.” Her hand lightly waved to
the man as he waved back, her other hand was clenched into a fist. The
white of the knuckles beginning to show the essence of her bones.
* * *
“You are taking forever.” Zei leaned her head back in frustration. She
had been watching Caliph click away at the computer for what seemed
like hours. In Caliphs world it only seemed like a few minutes passed,
while his mind was trapped away into his work. “I wanted this done
before-”
Zei did not have time to finish as she heard the
doors open, but her face turned to horror immediately as Aya walked
right through the door, a glare present upon her face.
“He’s under surveillance?” A yell exploded from Aya’s mouth.
“He’s threatening to send the national guard after you, because you
didn’t have your guns. He needed to cool down for a couple of days.”
Zei rolled her eyes at her while she jumped from the table.
“Why would he send the national guard after me?”
“Because he felt like you were becoming… Defective…” Slowly, but surely
the words came out as Zei opened the door. Only her eyes drifted back
towards Aya, who stood in complete silence.
“Let’s go get your guns.” The bubbly Zei came back immediately as she changed the subject.
“I suppose…” Aya’s eyes then traveled back to Case’s room, then his
chair. Those dead grey eyes stared back at her with a glare, but as
quick as he looked at her, he shifted right back to his typing.
“Don’t mind him.” The doors shut to Zei’s gun room as they both walked to a table, with two guns upon it. Aya’s guns.
“Don’t mind who?” The cold of the guns felt comforting to Aya as she picked them up, carefully examining each one.
“Caliph. The boy who was in Case’s chair. He’s a very religious boy
that has a passion for computers.” Pulling out a case of bullets, Zei
lightly explained a little about Caliph.
“He’s some hacker that was stolen from his parents to work here?” Alyce placed the guns into her bag, then the bullet case.
“You could say that…” Zei sat upon the table as she watched Aya head
for the door. “Also… Alyce. How far have you gotten to finding this
Kinsblood guy. I heard he’s to disappear into the shadows, and only
appears when he’s needed in meeting or anything else.” Legs stiffened
under Aya once she heard Prof. Mierick mention him. The card still in
the same bag that she had with her. Only her mind began to focus in on
it.
“No… Nothing yet.” She lightly tilted her head away
towards theZei as her body faced the opening door. Aya walked off
immediately without another word.
“So she’s being secretive
now…?” Zei played with a bullet between her fingers. “Guess I should go
bother Caliph and see if he can spy on her after he gets those files…”
The bullet flew across the floor, a clinking noise came from across the
room once it hit the wall. “What are you hiding so well from your
colleagues Dr. Case Razerahm?” She stared out of the opened window.
* * *
The sky was quite clear and forgiving during the afternoon. A perfect
time for Aya to enjoy her ritual of coffee or tea, complimented by a
lovely dessert of the day. Right now Riley was her only comfort, but
more along the lines Aya was excited to show Riley something special.
“Back again as usual Miss Alyce?” Riley stood with a bright smile and a hand to her hip, the other carrying a writing pad.
“You got me. I just want the special today, and maybe if you’d like to
join, then I’d like two specials.” Aya smiled cheerful at the surprised
looking girl.
“You’ve never invited me to have lunch with
you.” Those oceanic eyes were filled with much excitement as she
scurried off into the cafe. Only minutes later was she out with a
double does of cake and tea.
“I have a surprise to show
you.” Aya said as she pulled her bag up slowly. Earlier she decided to
leave the guns at home, which was not too far. The kitten comforted her
much better than any gun could.
“Oh my!” Her white teeth
shown as her perfect smiled shined in the sunlight. Riley instantly
began to lightly caress the small black fur ball’s head. “Have you
named it yet?”
“Well… I’m not sure yet.” Aya handed him over to Riley. It seemed to easily make a ball and curl up into her lap.
“Any ideas?” Riley’s attention was focused back at Aya.
“No clue, but someone said it was a male… So most likely a male name
would work.” A hand helped hold up Aya’s head as she stared down at the
small animal.
“A male name, aye…” A thin finger light tapped Riley’s lip as she became deep in thought.
“Loki.” A male voice from behind Aya, almost causing her to jump.
“Oh Mr. Zel. You’re early today…” Riley grinned at the man.
“Mr. Zel?” Already Aya knew his voice as she looked up. Long brown hair and hazel eyes. It was definitely him alright.
“Ah… Yes I heard you were serving my favorite chocolate cake.” The man smiled from behind his glasses.
“You know what I’ll grab another special and we will all have a tea
party here in the bright welcoming sun.” Riley grinned as she sat up,
the cat in her arms, but her eyes looking towards Aya. “Would it be
alright with you Alyce?” A pouted face was direct straight at Aya.
“No. It’s fine. I suppose the more the merrier…” A chuckle escaped
Aya’s mouth as she grabbed for the cat. Riley scuttled back inside.
“So you haven’t named the scoundrel yet?” Nero watched as the cat
climbed up on Aya and rested upon the back on her neck and shoulders.
“Loki… You said. Why?” Interested her eyes watched him.
“God of mischief. Kittens are especially known to be very mischievous…”
The words herspoke trailed off lightly, which caught Aya’s attention.
“You know. Alyce is a very pretty name. I wonder when a girl named
Alyce will be so kind as to give me call. I still have much to speak to
you about.”
“Stop it, because I know you’ll try to pry into
my life. I can’t be wasting my time around a guy like you…” Quickly her
eyes shifted away from him as she noticed Riley coming out from the
door.
“You know Alyce you and me are not to different from
each other. We’re intelligent, mysterious, live double lives, but we
share one thing in common… We both posse demon blood…” His voice
whispered ever so lightly into her ear. Chills and goose bumps came to
her flesh and body when he spoke the word ‘demon’
“Alright. Everything is perfectly placed.” In a careful motion Riley
sat the plates before Nero. Aya was not even able to get a word in so
Riley would not suspect anything strange.
It was an odd
setting for Aya, but the conversation kept up due to Riley’s easy
chatting nature. However Nero tried to keep conversation with Aya, but
his attempts seemed to die down much quicker than he hoped. Only around
thirty minutes had passed by the time Aya had to finally leave, even
Riley was beginning to get pestered by her fellow co-workers. Riley was
first to leave the table, then Aya after words, but she knew he was
following her, watching her.
“In most places this is
considered stalking…” Calmness was present in her voice as she heard
him still following behind. “I don’t get you…” Her feet paused, and so
did the noise of the walking a few steps later. “You said if I wish to
see you then I was to call you, but here you are following me around.”
Her eyes turned to face him.
Perfectly still he stood. Only his eyes watched her, but they were lavender. Two contacts fell from his hands.
“If you wish not to go home with me, then I will cause a panic that
will jeopardize you forever…” A light smirk was upon his face as his
hand grabbed part of the hair that flowed towards his chest.
“What?” Wide eyed she watch in horror.
“Five seconds you have before I drag you with me to the street, with me
being completely exposed… Five.” The counting then began.
“You’re insane…” Hre head shook at him as she turned from him.
“Four…” A breath pasted her ear. Without notice he was already close to
her, ready to destroy her vary life, maybe even possibly get her
terminated.
“Three…” His arms wrapped around her, while grabbing her arms and pulling them behind her back.
“What are you doing?” Aya tried to look behind her, but felt a kick to
her feet, they then feel from under her. But then something grabbed
under her knees and behind her back.
“Two…” White clouded
her vision as she realized he already had taken off the wig. For a
moment she was in awe. The man in the picture stared down at her, but a
sinister grin plagued his face.
“One!” He then began to run out.
“Wait! Please stop! I agree! I agree!” Aya immediately cried out before he could rest the end of the street alley.
“See… That wasn’t that hard, now was it?” He whispered into her ear as he continued walking.
“Wait, why are you still going?” She yelled loudly at him while still in his arms.
“Because my driver is waiting for me just outside of this quiet
street…” He lightly chuckled as they came to an empty street. A Rolls
Royce pulled up to the curb. An elderly couple were walking opposite of
the street. Paying to much attention to each other to notice Nero
carrying Aya to the car.
“You can set me down now…” She grumbled a bit.
“If I do then you might get away. It’s hard to catch something so
interesting without it wanting to run away in fear.” He opened the door
and carefully placed her in the seat. A meowing noise echoed from
outside the car.
“Don’t worry. I know you’re there. We won’t
forget you.” A sincere smile reached his face as he picked up the small
animal. Aya felt odd as she watched him, almost like her face was
becoming hot and flushed with blood.
“I feel odd…” She looked over at him as he placed the kitten in the front seat, then closed the door.
“I would think so…” He looked over at her as his body leaned over her.
His hand lightly caressing her face. Aya backed away from him, but only
the car door was in the way, and at the speed that the driver was
traveling there was no way for her to leap out. “What
are you doing…? You’re to close.” Aya tried to push him away as she
felt her temperature ise greatly. Something was wrong inside of her as
she began to struggle.
“I can feel your heart beating much
faster as I touch you…” A finger lightly traced her collar bone as it
came to the center of her chest. It was easy to reach in the low neck
black shirt she wore, simply showing off her light, but feminine curves.
“Stop it please…” Aya cried out once more before seeing her world turn black.
