They Walk Among Us follows three young adults who have died and become guardian spirits for the living, as they descend from Heaven to the streets of New York to help a young man who is struggling with his homosexuality. On February 20, 2003, a devastating fire – among the worst nightclub fires in US history – took the lives of 100 hundred people. The youngest of these victims was Nicholas O'Neill, an 18–year old actor, musician and writer.
Less than one year before the fire, Nicholas wrote a play – his first and his last – inspired by an alleged true story of angels appearing to a group of friends one night on Narragansett Beach, Rhode Island, and also by the untimely death of a little girl named Grace. Nicky decided to tell his story from the perspective of the angels. Remarkably, his angelic characters are young adults who have died tragically, and one of them is clearly meant to be Nicky himself.
It has long been the belief of Nicky's family that this play was in some way prophetic, and was meant to prepare them for Nicky's passing. This presentation of
They Walk Among Us will mark the 5th anniversary of this tragic event.
They Walk Among Us will be directed and choreographed by Merete Muenter. The design team includes Melissa Pelkey (costumes), Alysia Miller (sets), Jonathan Cottle (lights), Gary Hickeson and Chris O'Neill (sound). Cast includes Georgina Bates, Gabriel Bly, Jillian Coneys, Benda Crowley, Zachary Denison, Lisa Fiebert, Matt Lundy, Anthony Martinez, Amon McDade Johnson, Leslie Nemet, Kelsey Schelling, Anne Schroeder, Stephanie Serfecz, Lori Spada, Francesco Tisch, Andrea Togni, Valoneecia Tolbert, Andrew Wheeler, and Courtni Wilson.
