Local producer wins music awards

HOT SPRINGS - Local music and film production company PK Productions LLC and its feature artists, Michael Bucher and Wind Spirit Drum, won a pair of Native American Music Awards during the annual NAMA awards ceremony, held Oct. 3, in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
PK Productions is a music management and media company, located in Hot Springs and was founded by Karla LaRive.
The award’s program featured more than a dozen performances by some of today’s leading Native American artists.
PK Production’s, singer/songwriter, Michael Bucher received one Native American Music Award for “Best Compilation” album for his work with Joanne Shenandoah on “Bitter Tears Sacred Ground.” They were also nominated in four other categories for the recording.
Together they shared six nods for “Record of the Year” and “Best Compilation.”
Bucher earned “Best Male” and “Best Video” for his single,’Don’t Forget About Me,’ while Shenandoah earned “Best Female” and “Song/Single” for the track, ‘Riding Free.’
Bucher’s music video, ‘Don’t Forget About Me’ was produced by LaRive, and filmed and edited by Christopher Crosby of musicseen-PROductions.
This is the company’s third NAMA music video nomination.
‘Don’t Forget About Me’ was filmed in July 2008 on location at the Black Hill Wild Horse Sanctuary, and with other regional locations in western South Dakota. The video features additional vocals by award winner Joanne Shenandoah.
In addition, the traditional drum performance group - and a husband and wife duo, Wind Spirit Drum also received an NAMA for “Best Gospel-Inspirational” for their recording of Amazing Grace,’ along with two other nominations for their debut recording, ‘Lenape Spirits.’
