Hit CCM Singer-Songwriter Matt Brouwer to Headline April 19 Event

Independent Artist Showcase at the Global Cafe' in downtown Nashville from 7 p.m.-midnight on April 19 (Saturday).The event, which is an official part of GMA Music Week 2008, will feature a performance
at 10:30 p.m. by hit CCM singer-songwriter Matt Brouwer. The artist will use the event to give fans a sneak preview of his forthcoming album, which is being produced by Grammy legend Michael Omartian.Other acts taking the stage for 20-minute sets will be Await the Day (7 p.m.), Tquan Moore (7:30 p.m.), Quimi – with The Katinas (8 p.m.), Daniel Pratt (8:30 p.m.), Virginia Hill (9 p.m.), Laura Kaczor (9:30 p.m.), Traci Root (10 p.m.), The Sonflowerz (11 p.m.), and The Access (11:30 p.m.). Admission is free for GMA attendees and $5 for members of the general public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
"Last year's Indie Extreme Independent Artist Showcase was a huge success, so we have expanded it to include more acts this year," said company CEO Kathy Douglas, who founded the Nashville-based company in 2006. "Matt Brouwer plans to perform several selections from his forthcoming album. He will be joined by a dozen other highly acclaimed Christian acts that perform in a variety of musical styles. There's no doubt it will be a highlight of GMA Music Week."Indie Extreme recently moved its national headquarters from Houston to Nashville. Douglas added that Indie Extreme is staging the Independent Artist Showcase with the Gospel Music Association to help build exposure for professional and emerging contemporary Christian acts. * Former Reunion Records recording artist and hit CCM singer-songwriter Matt Brouwer. The Canadian singer-songwriter has landed hits on the Billboard CCM records chart (I Shall Believe); CCM CHR chart (Water); and more indie extreme -- independent artist showcase – 2 the New Music Weekly Hot 100, AC, Indie AC, and Top 40 charts (Surrender). His latest CDs, Unlearning, B-sides Recording Vol. 1, and A Merry Little Christmas, follow his award-winning and critically acclaimed debut CD, Imagerical.
Brouwer's new album will feature background vocal performances by legendary artists such as Dove Award-winning singer-songwriter Amy Grant and CMA Award-winning singer-songwriter Vince Gill. The CD is being produced by Grammy winner Michael Omartian.
* The Sonflowerz, a popular Christian duo that was named the Best Over-All Vocal Group at last summer's GMA Music in the Rockies competition. Sisters Elissa and Becca Leander of Colorado Springs, Colo., recently finished recording a new album in Nashville and Denver titled All Over the World, which will be released in mid-May. T
he CD, which was produced by Dove Award-winning producer Don Koch, features 11 new songs penned by Elissa with other writers such as Koch and Brian White. The first single from the album, Edge of My Seat, recently debuted at number one on the CRW IAA Chart with airplay on 30 radio stations. The album is distributed for Sonflower Records through the distribution channels of Indie Extreme. * Await the Day, a Christian rock band that is using "edgy guitar licks and original melodic ballads" to share their passion for Jesus Christ. The group was encouraged to form in 2006 after deeply moving attendees during a worship service at a men's retreat. A host of acoustic performances followed at various venues across the region. Members of the band found themselves "driven by their faith and motivated to share the word with every breath." They are working their way to the top with a devotion to God and his music. Members of Await the Day are Ben Fontenot, Justin O'Neal and Eddie Boyer.
* Tquan Moore, a singer-songwriter-guitarist who has written music and performed worship/praise music in youth ministry settings for more than 15 years. He served as a youth minister for West Houston Church of Christ in Texas for 11 years before embarking on a full-time Christian music ministry career in 2002. Moore also is the former lead singer and acoustic guitarist for the Houston-based band Beckoned. He and the band were one of only seven acts chosen to perform at a Christian music competition called The Unveiling. The competition drew 170 entrees from 35 states and eight countries. The artist is using his musical and speaking talents to transform "people's lives through the power of Jesus Christ."
* Quimi, a 19-year-old singer-songwriter who "pours out her heart and soul" through rocking vocals and an acoustic guitar to show her love for Jesus Christ. The soft-spoken yet enthusiastic artist recently stepped onto the music scene with her self-titled debut CD. A former nationally ranked tennis player, Quimi has been writing songs for five years. Her 10-song CD, which was produced by The Katinas, features charismatic vocals and funk, jazz and reggae-accented songs. "I'm so blessed to be able to worship God through music and give back what he's given me," Quimi says. "My prayer is that it will inspire others to seek God's purpose for their lives and live wholeheartedly on fire for him."
* The Access, a five-member Christian alternative rock band managed by Mark Silvestri, founder of the Houston record label R.A.W. Music Group. The group, which formed in Mont Belvieu, Texas, in 2006, is currentlymore indie extreme -- independent artist showcase – 3 working on their debut album with Houston producer MD Thompson of Ivory Tower Realizations. Members of The Access are lead vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Justin Michaels, bassist/back-up vocalist Terry Cardwell, guitarist Nick Daniel, guitarist/back-up vocalist Winter, and drummer/back-up vocalist Kyle Mason Hall. The band, which describes its sound as a modern form of praise and worship, is using its music to "wake up a sleeping church and tobring the life, only Christ can offer, to a generation of dry bones."
* Virginia Hill, a singer-songwriter-guitarist who is using her heartfelt vocals, music and lyrics to "encourage unity among the body of Christ and reach the lost through the message of hope." The Chicago-based artist recently released her first CD, LOL (laugh out loud). She was raised in a family of "talented musicians". Her mother Judy Buffum and sisters Tammy Trent and Pam Thum, all of whom are successful recording artists, have encouraged her to pursue a career in Christian music. Hill's music blends passion and heartfelt worship. She is lauded for her "captivating and contagious high energy, intimacy, and ability to make people feel comfortable as she shares her faith and trust in the Lord, Jesus Christ." The artist attends Well Church in Geneva, Ill.
* Laura Kaczor, a Nashville recording artist who serves as the worship leader/music director/co-emcee of Jesus Fest, a festival attended by thousands of youths and young adults from across the Northeast. The Pennsylvania native, who plays guitar, piano, flute and violin, recently served as the singer-songwriter for Melao Arts, an animated film about the wonders and adventures found in the Amazon. She also is performing in Wake Me Up, a concert tour sponsored by the Campus Crusade for Christ. Kaczor says she is using her musical gifts to "bring the beauty of God's love to a broken world, see people's hearts set on fire through the touch of God, and to glorify Him in all things." The artist recently released her debut CD Wake Me Up, a project produced by Grammy-nominated producer Anthony Newett. Kaczor also has recorded an EP of original songs with Grammy Award-winning producer John Carter Cash.
* Traci Root, an R&B fusion recording artist who is touring the nation and releasing a new CD this spring. Root, who recently moved to Nashville from the northeast, has received critical acclaim for an "energetic and soul-stirring" style that combines classic R&B with modern soul, jazz, hip-hop and pop-rock. The Indiana native has drawn up to 40,000 people to performances in Southeast Asia and received radio airplay around the world. Her song, I Will Carry You, which was dedicated to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, has been used by the social welfare organization Foundation Life. Root says that her relationship with Indie Extreme is one of the reasons why she moved to Nashville. The firm spotlighted her in the first independent artist showcase last April during GMA Week 2007.
* Daniel Pratt, a singer-songwriter/guitarist who writes, records and performs ballad rock anthems and praise music for corporate music settings. His emotionally driven worship sound, which features acoustic guitar, bass, electric guitar, keyboards and drums, has been compared to recording acts such as Chris Tomlin, U2 and David Crowder. Pratt leads worship at the Woodlands Point Community Church in The Woodlands, Texas, and visits other churches for special guest appearances. Raised in a musical family, he has always been encouraged to better himself as a musician and to use his talent for God. "There is nothing I love more than leading worship and being on stage with close friends who have the same heart and passion," he says.
"Today, it's harder than ever for artists to land major record deals or for smaller labels to receive substantial radio airplay and record sales," Douglas noted. "Indie Extreme levels the playing field by providing all of the administrative and managerial resources they need. We are working to build a 3,000-member network around the globe."
