All over the internet, especially on Myspace we are constantly asked to support causes. This is a great thing. It places accountability right into our individual hands. Through the power of technology we can support and inform each other.
It is always a good rule of thumb to thoroughly read ANYTHING you sign. Research for yourself. Read the fine print. If there is something you don't understand, ask someone. Read the fine print again. In our attempts to pass laws to protect ourselves we could be achieving the opposite.
For example in the early 90's there was an attempt to pass a law in Alachua County Florida. The law was to ban the sale of alcohol in strip clubs. Local law enforcement had determined that alcohol increased the crimes surrounding these establishments. Okay, fine. Yet the way the law was worded it would have made it also illegal (for example) to serve wine at an art gallery featuring nudes.
CENSORSHIP!
Locally we fought back. We petitioned, we rallied, we marched. We won. They had to rewrite the law. So you can't drink a beer in a titty bar. . . .whatever. But they had to leave the Artists alone. This is also the area of the country where they tried to change the Vagina Monologues to the "HooHaa Monologues" because they can't handle the word Vagina. Again. . . . .
CENSORSHIP!
We live in a very dangerous age. Our current administration would love nothing more than to control everything we see and do. They prey upon our fears. They are chipping away at all of our civil rights. If we completely lose our freedom of speech, it is only a matter of time before all our other rights fall like a house of cards.
Remember that they start by burning books and end by burning people.
Be CONSCIENTIOUS, Be AWARE, Be INFORMED,
Decide for yourself.
then
Be SUPPORTIVE, . . . Be LOUD!
They HATE it when we're LOUD!!!! *hehehehehehe*
When did we forget, this country is Of the People, By the People and For the People.
We the People.
The PEOPLE need to take back what is OURS.
always read the fine print.
twice.
