Way back in the Lower Middle Mesozoic Era, there was a game for the Nintendo Entertainment System called Duck Hunt. Simple game, really -- ducks flew out of the bushes, you shot at 'em. However, it had two innovations which made it very memorable indeed. First, the controller: rather than use the primitive game pad, it had a "light gun" that allowed you to actually aim a (toy plastic) gun at the ducks. This... was beyond cool.

Second, you were hunting, right? So you had a hunting dog on screen. Thing is, this dog served no actual in-game purpose... except to laugh at you when you didn't shoot ducks up to its lofty standards. Which usually resulted in you trying to shoot the damn dog.
