News: Big shows on the horizon here in KENTLAND. JAVELINAS close out a stellar 2008 in Chicago with what will be a sold out show at Fitzgeralds in Berwyn IL 11/8/08. JAVELINAS open the show for the Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra and the Cliff Johnson band - Two long time staples in the Chicago rock and roll community. Thoroughly impressed with the JAVELINAS when they supported his mothership, Off Broadway, months back, Cliff reached out to the lads and asked them to open the show for this amazing night of independent rock. Links are above for tickets. Seriously - this is gonna KILL.
Wait... Did I read that right?? YES YOU DID. For the first time in 8 years SIMPLE SIMON is hitting the rock and roll stage. And where else would be more appropriate to sail in their ROCK SHIP then their long time stomping ground, METRO in Chicago.
The Story:
About a year ago, the Simons talked. It was a lot of reminiscing, a lot of "Where did 7yrs go?", a lot of "Damn, we had some cool shit", and "damn, we had some great times" conversations. Reunion was inevitable - you don't just unplug a machine like that without running it's full course, or reinventing it within the frame of living your life. Just ask The Police. So, it was decided they wanted to get back into the Chgo Scene on a limited scale for themselves, their fans, their friends and to proudly carry the torch of INSPIRED ROCK AND ROLL. Rehearsals lifted off in Feb '08, blowing the dust off of 5 records and dozens of unreleased songs. This went on once every 5 weeks, continues to date and is said to be, of course,
"natural, fun, and very exciting". Incidentally, they had talked about a year end "comeback show" with a new record, etc... and the venue had to be METRO. Well well well...
Um... the new record hasn't been finished, so axe that - but the SHOW had to happen. Voila. Actually, there may be a limited edition pressing of the "King EP" from 1999 with bonus tracks just for this show... but we'd better get pressing if we're gonna make that happen. Details to follow.
How about that... Simple Simon, Metro, Dec 26, the day after Xmas. Now this show won't be the full-blown "comeback set" that the SIMONS have been working on (due to set time restrictions), but it will be a well documented spectacle, nonetheless. Simons will be direct support for LBC, a band coincidentally that 10 years ago Simple Simon helped get into the door of METRO. How reciprocal!
OK - looks like there's a hefty cover charge, and mind you, Simons or Kentland have no say in that. However, long time Simon fans, if you put away two dollars a week from today on, you're covered.
The members of the band say, and I quote - " We really want EVERYONE to be there, this is for us and our fans".
And it's 18 & over!!!
Papa Kentland says - you simply cannot miss these amazing shows to wrap up 2008 and segway into 2009.
End of the year mailer will hit late NOV.
Rock on
