Well yes, as if the homophobic protests against Elton John's upcoming performance at the Plymouth (No sight of) Jazz Festival by a handful of neo con pastors in Tobago were not enough, this Akon jackass comes and drags a 14 year old girl around a stage for a 'wining competition'.
It's even more hilarious that the 14 year old girl in the video is the daughter of a pastor who is interviewedin today's Trinidad Express.
I tried posting the youtube video, but it's been pulled for 'copyright infringement by Universal Music Group'. I don't know how a public performance could infringe on copyright laws. My suspicion is that they were worried about the backlash. They've replaced the video showing the sexual violence with a wishy washy edited slide show.
In this country we've arrested artists for using one bad word, a play about domestic violence was shut down because of obscene language, but Akon dry rapes a reportedly 14 year old girl, dragging her all over the floor and then getting up and walking off and nobody says a fucking word.
In fact, if you watch the youtube clip you'll hear the laughter and excitement of the crowd. This is another example of the insanity in this country. People are calling for the head of Emily Anamanthodo whose 4 year old daughter was raped, sodomized and then died of her injuries. Not asking why a 14 year old girl was allowed to go and live with a rasscloth psycho and why the social workers didn't notice that not only was the child abuse but the mother as well.
Anyway, we'll see what becomes of this Akon issue. Nothing probably. In this town it seems that it's better to be a violent heterosexual with no respect for women, than a piano playing gay rights advocate.
