Quarrel - "Looking For Sun" (DUANE BARRY REVIEW)With a wealth of knowledge and experience in the music industry,
coupled with support from some of the biggest names around, UK-based
label Standby Records focuses its efforts on discovering new and
up-coming talent from around Europe. This release comes from
Quarrel
- a producer and DJ from Poland who has very quickly made a name for
himself in the last couple of years with support coming from many top
DJs including
Armin Van Buuren amongst others.
Looking for Sun is a mellow progressive house track with a
throbbing deep bassline and solid groove. This track seems to have been
crafted to guide the listener through a steady and uplifting journey
and, indeed as the track begins, this is where it excels. The structure
of this track succeeds in visualising the subject matter and when the
sparkling high synths are introduced, it really does create a picture
in your mind of the sun just starting to break through the clouds on an
overcast day.
The breakdowns that are scattered throughout further add to this
imagery with the addition of some airy pads and soft synths although
it's at this point the composition of the track seems to fall down
slightly. After the wonderful culmination of these breakdowns, the
sounds don't progress any further, which is a shame as I feel this
definitely would've brought the track as a whole to a much-needed
conclusion.
This would be a great track to drop during the beginning of a set to
lure the audience into a groove and prepare them for the night/morning
ahead. It's a shame there aren't any remixes or additional tracks
included with this release, however the production and emotive elements
definitely give it the ability to stand up on it's own.
