My favorite robot was "The Colossus Of New York", because he had a cool robe, sparked a lot and walked on the bottom of the Hudson River. Who's your favorite/favorites ?

My friend Clara suggested favorite mad scientists, so I've added that catagory to this blog at a later date. Great idea Clara ! I'll have to go with Dr. Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive). He was just crazed.

Okay, Jeff, I got one for ya, and this really dates me! There was a kid's puppet show many years ago starring character actor Wright King, who was in the movie "Finian's Rainbow." King played a character named Ernest P. Duckweather. The show was called "Johnny Jupiter," and featured a life-sized robot named Reject. He had an evil twin called Defect, the same guy, I'm sure, with different trappings. This was so silly and has obviously stuck with me. There was also a robot on the old Captain Video TV series with Al Hodge named Tobor, which backwards is ...um...never mind.

DANGER, JEFFREY POTTER!!!

I was a big fan of Reject The Robot. I don't remember Tobor on Captain Video, but have a movie, "Tobor The Great" with good child actor, Billy Chapin (brother of Lauren). John (with Beaver Cleaver's face) on Myspace told me they were brother and sister.

Rosie, the Jetson's Robot Maid....what could be better than a sarcastic and funny robot that cleans!

Rosie had everything going, humor and cleaning ! And they made her wear maid's clothes. I think. At least a thing around her head, to keep any robot sweat , hair or oil from getting on stuff.

Robbie the robot. He's a sci-fi classic. It did not matter to me if he was in the movies or on a TV show, it was all good.

Hi Lucas, I think Robie was very well received, but after "The Invisible Boy" and "forbidden Planet" , it's reported that he developed a drinking problem. He did seem to slur a bit in later TV appearances. It could have been an electrical or hydraulic problem, but I do think his rapd ascent into stardom was just too much too handle. I wonder where he is now ?

Now that you mention it, I think I may have seen him on an episode of The Simpsons a few years back - he had a dead midget inside of him. I think that would be enough to make any robot drink.

Yeah, that'll do it every time. I'm glad he's still getting work, even if it's in an animated show.

Hi Scream Queen. My favorite Bela role as a mad scientist is Dr. Richard Vollin in "The Raven". He really does a job on Boris' face in that one. I love Bela.
The " Lost In Space " robot was a good soul and he could rip your limbs off too, if you messed around.

I forgot about Dr. Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger) in "The Bride Of Frankenstein". I think I'll make him my top pick, until tomorrow, when I think of some other nut.

Okay, here's one which is known primarily to us old comicbook people. Captain Marvel's nemesis was Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. You might know: Wikipedia has a bio and a drawing of the guy!

Hi Clara, Thanks for the mad scientist idea. I've never seen "Flesh Feast". I researched it though. It says it was Miss Lake's last film and it sounds wild. I hope to see it sometime !
Syndrone was a nut !

Below this are Marlene's choices. I saw no place to reply (glitch ?) so I'll do it here.
Hi Marlene. Thanks for writing in. Lionel Atwill was great. I'm trying to think of some mad scientists that he played. I've never seen "The Mad Doctor Of Market Street", but would like to. I imagine he's the doctor/scientist. Albert Dekker kind of reminds me of Atwill. "Dr. Cyclops" is a good one and I love the early color flicks. Get back to me on the robot. Again, a lot of choices.

I always thought Lionel Atwill was a terrific mad scientist. Also Dr Cyclops, Albert Dekker. Favorite Robot I'll have to get to you on that...

Dear Kid Setzer, Thanks for writing in. Dr Frankenfurter is coming on strong (I noticed Coach ,below this comment, agrees). Also Tim Curry probably has nicer legs than say, Boris Karloff.

I vote yea on Frankenfurter. But Gene Wilder was great in Young Frankenstein. And as far as robots go, Gort is my favorite followed by Mr. R.I.N.G. from the old Night Stalker series.

Hi Tom, Dr. Frankenfurter is picking up momentum. Gene Wilder ia a nut. Gort's really scary and I don't recall Mr. R.I.N.G. I've watched Night Stalker quite often, but missed that robot. I'll be on the lookout.

I just thought about another terrific mad scientist: Dr Satan from "House of 1000 corpses" by Rob Zombie. This Dr Satan seems to be a real nice guy...

My favorite movies/ actors notwithstanding, I'd say as a character alone- Dr. Henry Jekyll is the all-time maddest scientist because he was SO obsessed with his experiments he was actually willing to test them on himself.

Hey Mark,
Yeah Gort is great. That wasn't foam rubber behind his knees, it was phycholinol, a material you and I know nothing about. Boy, when that visor opens up, look out ! It was just on AMC the other night. My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts because I watch it everytime it shows up.
I've never seen Devil Girl From Mars, but may have dated her once.
Great mad scientist pick ! Thanks for dropping by.

Hmm...well I have it on good authority that your girlfriend not only thinks you're nuts, but has witnessed many acts by you that contribute to this notion: speaking along with the screenplay word for word, oral imitation of the sound effects, even animated trips around the livingroom attempting your best Gort-walk. Mr. Potter is one Bonafide Sci-fi Nutcase for certain! And somehow, he pulls it off in a most endearing way. He's still a nut though.

I happen to agree with Rocket Girl, that he's nuts and endearing as all get out. Insider info, he bought 50 B-grade movies for 50 bux. Now that's dedication. Caps off to Mr. Potter!
