hey mom, don't read this. so channing is way behind on tour blogging but tours are still poppin off so i gotta pick up the blog slack. we set off about 1:00 to play the opening night show of Version 07, the annual Chicago arts/music/getting wasted conference. our day got off to a great start by getting pulled over for doing 100 miles per hour in a 65 zone by an officer who was way into rhetorical questions. "How fast do you think you were going?" "Um...70?" "70?!?! No, how fast do you think you were going?" And that continued in 10mph incrememts until we eventually reached 100. since we had been driving for 3 hours already, my eyes were bloodshot, plus channing and i both have mullets, so the officer felt like a car search was in order. my car contained nothing of interest except for a 3x3ft holographic picture of mactonite that i scored at goodwill. so after being issued a court date in a podunk town 3 hours from where i live, we were back on the road. many barns were passed.

we played at The Compound, a large former commercial use building that you enter by walking through a crack in a giant chainlink fence, past some stacks of construction materials, and up some dark narrow stairs. tall waterbaby michael lives there along with a tall dog and some people probably. the space follows the trend of most of the houses we visit in chicago being enormous and not having any drywall or ceilings. iwe greeted rotten milk who was wearing a plastic hat in the form of daisy duck and some ass enhancing striped pastel womens pants as per the usual. show preparations included drinking beers, modifing my mullet into a rattail, and constructing a mailing/nailing list to pass around on a clipboard to hotties that are jonze-in' for a bone-in' and guys that are over 8s on the hot scale. i havnt looked at it since last night but i know we filled up the first page at least.

the first act was a chubby man in his early 50s with possible the thickest lensed glasses you can wear who sang opera and recited rude voicemail messages he had left local businesses. crowd response was positive. a short intermission followed a few movies. krunk shuttle from KC (a battle of whits between MR.T and gary coleman), a film featuring rotten milk trying to find the garden of paradise and hacking off bitches feet with a saw, and a movie about magical science to improve your life like gluing aspirin to your caps lock key. then a tad more opera before the "real" bands started.

our chi-town friend sarah filmed the night with her new video/camera thingamajigger so i'll be exited to see what comes out of that. man i have to poop right now. julia and alex, our madison bros, were present and had fun getting sick off blue sparks. alex spilled some in his eye and felt that he had discovered a new way to get wasted even faster. julia has a new haircut.

the first band was a 2004 Ssion/ILYBINILWY style band featuring david diarrhea rolling around on the floor while people tried to learn how to play instruments.

next was a pretty sweet dance/instrumental 90s hiphop band featuring members of waterbabies. i couldnt tell when the house music stopped and the band started but that might be a compliment i guess?

obelisk and mc cat genius had a pretty great set. nearly good enough to make up for the multitude of other terrible shows we have played in chicago. the room was sufficiently dark for our backing video to be clearly busy for the standers and the rest of the room was big enough for the booty shakers. it was a very nice place for our setup because there are doorways between the livingroom, kitchen, and performance zone so we could run laps with our wireless microphones while we played and bother people that didnt want to see us. dancing got pretty rowdy which is always nice. sometimes it gets hard to tell that we are really just a retarded comedy hiphop band. our microphones were really quiet so i shouted my ass off and i think the only intelligible words were the profanities which is just fine really. i couldnt talk for 20 minutes after we played because my voice was hacked. i sat on a couch between two film collective babes that i talked to for a long time and remember little to nothing about.

Yacht, a real artist on a real label, played last and was very enjoyable. chanting and dancing over laptop music. he was a nice guy too who told us that he liked our performance.

afterwards all the warhammer bros started showing up having played elsewhere earlier in the night. lets see, who else... ben chinchoozee, ann, jill, tim kiaser. everyone we know. i made sure to yell ITS 420!!! into jill's face often and into the face of a girl that looked a lot like jill. we peaced out to follow sonmi to 4th meal and a place to crash.

we found a nice pizza place that was open at 3:30am and served the fucking hugest slices of pizza ever. literally. there was a passed out homeless guy at the table next to us. i went outside to find a place to pee and found julia barfing into a palstic bag. but she felt better after that.

channing decided to say "thats not what the autopsy said" instead of "thats what she said" from now on.

we went to coyote dg's house to crash. channing slept on the floor, alex and julia on the zuton, and i on the leather couch strewn with john's clean under since his dryer is broken.

now i think we are finally going to go to the hologram museum. tonight will mark our second performance during 420. stay tuned for blog and pictures.
