Current mood:  geeky
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
One thing that sucks about being an "adult" is having to constantly micromanage my time so that I can accomplish my goals.  I have few complaints about my life, but one of them is the fact that I have virtually no free time.  Well, aside from blogging vainly about myself, obviously.

In the near future, I'm looking forward to the one-year anniversary of Broketronica.  For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, go to the Broketronica website.  This event started out, quite honestly, as a half-baked idea.  I really had no idea it was going to last as long as it has, nor did I know that I'd meet as many incredible musicians, producers, and otherwise cool people as I have.  Most events like this don't last more than 6 months at best, let alone a year.  A few events like this in Philly have lasted longer, but I think we may have found a working formula for the event where we're not trying to fill some huge club.  One concern of mine is that I want to figure out a way to pay the people who perform at the event.  None of us make any money, and we spend a shitload of time organizing, booking, promoting, etc.  Maybe year two will produce some different results.

In line with the electronic music efforts, Leafblower will be touring the Northeast US this summer with Jason Carr, the other Broketronica resident.  So far, we have a gig booked in New York City this June, and we're looking to July & August to play gigs at Baltitronic in Baltimore, Boston, and Wilmington, DE with Trixine Chemical Corp and possibly Panzer Division.  Janic and I are so busy between organizing Broketronica and playing shows that we haven't had time to work on a 2nd full-length CD, but we have written a ton of music in the past year, so it's possible that Leafblower might release something by the end of this year.

On the jazz end of things, Byard Lancaster should be coming back from the Bahamas by the end of this month, so he'll be back @ The Sidecar playing gigs with The Sidecar Allstars.  Meeting him this year has been one of the most incredible musical experiences and accomplishments of my entire life.  It even beats dropping out of music school!  Seriously, I feel blessed to have the opportunity to play shows with this guy.  Through him, other opportunities have materialized, such as our performance last month at Salon.

I've also recently picked up some gigs performing with Mr. King, featuring Allure, an incredible singer/songwriter I played with in a band a LONG time ago (try 1992).  Along with him, Anam joins us on piano, Phil from The Sidecar Allstars, and most recently, Jason Fifield of The Sidecar Allstars/From Cosmos to Chaos is going to be joining us on bass.  Mr. King's stuff is more songwriterish, with moments of beautiful bliss alongsinde moments of frenetic debauchery, mixed in with some downhome funk and soul.  The addition of the full Sidecar Allstars band will definitely solidify this group's sound, increase the overall repertoire, and open up the opportunity for some great gigs.

There's going to be a lot of music happening this summer.  Three freaking bands!

As if that wasn't enough planning for the near future, I also took the initiative to join a gym across the street from the office this week.  I started out full-force on the treadmill, doing 4 miles one day, then two days later doing 5 miles.  Between that and my recent Hydrotherapy treatment, I have lost 5 lbs in about a week's time.  I really only have 5 more to lose before being at my target, and then I need to connect with a personal trainer so I can tone myself up.

I think it's going to be a great summer.  The weather was beautiful today, and I'm hoping at least Spring will get its ass in gear and start already!

And by the way, MySpace ... Ornette Coleman's "The Shape of Jazz to Come" was release in 1959, not 1990, you fucking twits.
