Elevator Music came to life in the spring of '94 created by veteran promoter Fernando Pinto. A music lover who in 1982 dived deeper into the music river, replacing the turntables for LIVE music at The Night Shift Café, Naugatuck CT. After the famous Rubber Ave Club, Fernando moved to New Haven in '89 and continued to bring the goods to Third World Café, Poco Loco, and The Moon, the last became famous for being the stage where Nirvana played their only CT appearance in history, two days before "Nevermind" was released to the world.
In 1992, Fernando opened the Tune Inn café in downtown New Haven CT. ( 9th square ) and problems soon began between his passion and the local politicians, not because there was anything Tune Inn was covering illegally. Contrary to that, Tune Inn's vibrant creative energetic presence in the neighborhood was colorful and empowering to the community, especially the youth. Unfortunately the politicians' narrow views couldn't see it and confronted us with intimidation and fear tactics, a skill they're well trained on, with the police's daily rally on our doorsteps, our backs were being pushed hard against the wall and the only option left, was to file a civil rights lawsuit against the city of New Haven and the police department to stay open. We won this battle without having to go in front of the judge, but even if we lost in COURT, deep in our source we knew from the get-go that what we were doing was righteous. This is a beauty that GENTRIFICATION can't provide the heart with, no matter how beautiful it looks to the eye. Gentrification showed us their rotten belly, it breathed classicism, destroyed our community, to benefit the real estate company and those who could afford to live there.
Today at the mercy of their guidance, the neighborhood looks beautiful, with a be-au-ty-ful sur-face that sooths their character. The space where the Tune Inn once explored with vital energy has been filled with a Club that promotes dancers and cover bands.
Just a brief review to show you how Elevator Music came into existence and the energies we battled against that inspired the outburst. The social struggle of its surroundings, corruption, oppression, and classicism became ELEVATOR MUSIC prime mirror neurons. Through the years Elevator Music evolved and expanded its vision beyond its original intent, while our fundamental ethic remains, passion, spirit and hard work, the seed of our impulse.
Now let the stars of our biography do the bitchin', The Pist, Showcase Showdown, 77, Tedio Boys, The Parkinsons, Les Baton Rouge, Kitty Badass, The Independents, Jiker, Thumper, Blind Justice, Invaders, Dissolve, Broken , React, Boiling Man, Supermarket All-Stars, Injury, Dead End kids, Cleanser and Howitzer. Compilation Cd's, Collision with Tradition, A Tribute to one of the Best Punk Bands ever, The Stranglers "No More Heroes" Psycho-Civilized, Skanarchy Trilogy, Revelation Apopolypse, and Welcome to Skannecticut. Elevator Music will continue consciously investing our energies to bring you music to inspire and motivate you towards action, while unraveling the mean spirits rotting the goodness of our communal lives. Thank you kindly for your positive interaction.
