Hey friends, welcome to a long winded, long overdue blog post about all
the latest events in the lives of Metavari. Since last November we've
been writing and recording new material for our first full-length
release. It's been a beautiful and, at times, a dark process reflecting
on all the change the last year has brought through our lives. It's
amazing to watch how each of our interpretations of these seasons has
shaped the songs.
Along the way we lost two members. And strangely enough, it was
unbelievably inspiring. Tommy and Simon are two of the most motivated
and creative people we've ever met. Which was why their parting was
bittersweet. Simon engineered our EP in its entirety and over half of
our new album and has helped us immensely on technical aspects of our
sound that we couldn't have been without. He now lives in Beijing and
is attending Tsinghua University. Tommy has been a collaborator and
writer as well as the guitarist in Metavari since day one. He is the
web developer at
One Lucky Guitar, Inc. and the founder and sole programmer on several successful web companies. One includes a micro-blogging service called
Publr
which was recently featured among other new companies in Newsweek.
Their pursuit of the things that make their heart glow are indeed the
reason why we are playing music.
The Album - Be One of Us and Hear No NoiseThe album
doesn't necessarily tell a linear story (although if you have an
afternoon to waste away we could unpack each track for you and it might
actually seem to be as straight as an arrow) and it isn't necessarily a
concept album, but the title we ended up with seemed to encapsulate
everything we're struggling to write down right now. "Be One of Us and
Hear No Noise." We could write all day long about what that title means
to us, but the point of this record is for both the title and the songs
themselves be interpreted. Literally. We are building a website (with
the help of Tommy) called "HearNoNoise.com" where anyone can post
anything they want, not just about the record, but about "hearing no
noise" in any context that makes sense to post about. Lyrics, audio,
video, images, links, quotes, notes... anything. And the "Us" in "Be
one of us"... is this community.
An ExhibitWhen the record becomes available this
June, we've decided to do something in collaboration with an album
release show. Feeding off this online community, we're curating an
exhibit of artists who are working on pieces of all different media
inspired by Hear No Noise. We can't wait to send you all the details in
the next few weeks, and we couldn't be more excited too see all these
scribbles on paper and hours spent in our smelly basement come into
fruition. If you want any more information about the exhibit or are
even interested in being a part of it, don't hesitate to shoot us a
message.
The WWWAnd in an attempt to legitimize our web presence during this whole project, we've updated our
web site and
myspace pages and become a part of the
Twitter
community. Check us out on all of the above, we'd love to have you
follow us along the way. All new photography is courtesy of our good
friend and photographer,
Joel Faurote.
Muxtape.comWe're thrilled to have been invited
to be a part of
Justin Ouellette and
Luke Crawford's re-launch of
Muxtape.
It's a new website that allows bands to create mini profiles and
"mixtapes" of their own music. The site has so much potential and there
are many more features yet to be revealed as it exits its "beta"
period. We're excited to have been among the first bands to be invited
to create an account. Some of the others were Dan Deacon, Black Lips,
Anamanaguchi, Health, DM Stith, of Montreal and Girl Talk. This week
they just gave all the bands that were invited to be a part of the beta
period 3 invitations to invite more bands on their own. And those bands
in turn can invite 3 more bands, and so on. It's growing by the minute.
We think this project is going to explode. Check it out and keep an eye
on what these guys are unpacking!
TourWe are headed out for a 2 week trek across the
Midwest and East Coast in May in support of the release of "Be One of
Us and Hear No Noise." The dates are updated on our
myspace and
website
as they become official. We'd love to meet all of you in person who
have been following us this last year and are miles away from Fort
Wayne so don't hesitate to send us a message or be in touch. And if you
know a cozy floor we can rest our heads, we'll be forever grateful!
Thanks for reading all this and we hope to see you soon!
