Did you miss the first 20 steps on how to get published? Log on to Twitter and search for jonslewis!

Here are the first ten steps (but you need to log on to Twitter for 11-20):

STEP 1: Finish your book! Sound easy? Not so fast. It needs to be PERFECT!

STEP 2: Your manuscript needs to grab readers by the throat & never let go. Read Noah Lukeman's THE FIRST FIVE PAGES!

STEP 3: Do NOT ask friends & family to read your manuscript. That isn't fair to them or to you. Get outside feedback!

STEP 4: Find a writer's group, or better yet, a librarian or bookseller to read your work. They know their stuff!

STEP 5: R U sensitive? Jump ship now! Writing isn't for the feint of heart. Criticism is coming! Be ready for it!

STEP 6: When you want to give up, remember... it only takes ONE agent and ONE publisher to fall in love with your work.

STEP 7: It's nearly impossible to get a publishing deal with a large publisher. Someone has to do it, though. Y not U?

STEP 8: Writing isn't just an art, it's also a business. ALWAYS present yourself professionally.

STEP 9: If you were an agent, would you put your career on the line for your manuscript? If not, FIX IT!

STEP 10: Trust is key! If a publisher can't trust that an agent has fabulous clients, that agent will go out of biz!
