ROCK band performing in front of 8,000 scouts were hauled off stage after they turned the air blue with a string of four-letter obscenities.

Organisers of the Essex International Scout Jamboree persuaded Missing Andy to tone down some of their risque lyrics before they performed their set.

But they were left shocked and stunned when lead singer Alex Greaves began spouting foul language at the event in Kirby-le-Soken, near Clacton-on-Sea.

Furious mum Cheryl Baxter, from London, said the band should never have been booked to perform in front of throngs of impressionable scouts.

Inappropriate

She said: "My son and his friends have become obsessed with this band but after listening to them myself I can't help but think they are an entirely inappropriate influence."

Missing Andy, who describe themselves as 'urban indie punk', were recently named 'Number one breaking band' by the influential New Musical Express.

Their manager Nicky Cook today admitted he thought it was "strange" they had been chosen to play for such a young audience.

He said: "I would like to apologise on behalf of the band to the people who were offended. Sometimes it's just a by-product of the show."

"The one thing they didn't set out to do was offend – there was no intention to cause havoc. They got carried away and Alex was just in the moment."

Justin Mullender, part of the seven-day jamboree management team, said the band were not paid as a result of the outburst and had been escorted off the site.

For the record, the kids loved it.
