I shot a video yesterday for Charlie King. I used all my own money and it got really expensive. Mostly because I seem to have a problem compromising my artistic vision when I know how great something can be. It was a big gamble. Not really because in order to truly gamble, you have to be able to win and there's no way I'll see a dime from this.
It makes me very sad that I didn't get everything I wanted. I felt like I planned well and things were going smoothly before the shoot. Film making is a collaboration and some things are just out of my hands. In order to make a low budget shoot like this work, it relies on a bunch of people who hold your project in their hands. There were some big problems on this shoot with communication and it cost us. It cost me.
I guess, none of this matters in the scheme of the video you will see. You won't know what wasn't there, only what is and there's some fantastic things you will be treated to. I'm sure it will cut together fine but "fine" just isn't what I'm about. I take that back... It will be much better than fine. It just bums me out because it won't be to the best of my ability.
Now on to the good stuff...

Now on to the really good stuff...
We ended up after the shoot at the Rabbit Ranch(Gram Rabbit's house). It was such an amazing and funny time. I've realized in recent years that the main thing I want in my life is family. I've understood since I was 5 that family has nothing to do with blood but I had denied myself finding my true family because of my own insecurities as a man and as an artist.
I sat there last night by the campfire and understood clearly that I had created this magical night all from my search of family. All these amazing people and artists were right here because I brought them. I felt truly content and satisfied that I was on the right path. I also laughed so hard I almost peed myself for most of the night which was spent sitting around the fire under the stars until after 4a watching these people play music and get to know each other, each more talented than the next. I felt for the first time that I belonged and that I was an equal.
This is why I'm building Hicksville. So my family and extended family have a place to go and create and inspire each other. Here's the members of my family that were at the Rabbit Ranch last night around the fire:
