My friend Jes came by to see me DJ tonight and asked me, "It must get lonely?". I responded, "No. It's much more lonely out there when I'm not busy." In retrospect, that was not a true statement.
It does get lonely. It is difficult to look down on all these beautiful women hanging out w/dumb shits. It's even more difficult knowing that even if I went down there and used the fact that I'm the DJ or that I'm smarter, funnier, or more interesting than the guy they are with to sleep w/them; it still wouldn't fill the hole. The hole is tired of bandaids.
So yes Jes. It does get lonely. I honestly don't know how much more I can take it... I love DJing. I've been doing it for... yes... 20 fucking years now. I'm good at it... That being said, the bar I work at doesn't seem to get it. They don't get the following things:
1) CONSISTENCY IS KING:
Even though I've asked them to have similar DJs on the same night each week; they don't understand. I spent the first hour with 20 people standing on the dance floor looking at me waiting for me to play hip hop. I don't play hip hop. Why?...
2) HIP HOP IS LAME
I'm all for people having their own music tastes. I DJ'd Hip Hop, Funk & House from 1989-1995. My first mix was U Can't Touch This into Super Freak. I learned from Richard "Humpty" Vision and used to DJ on Power 106, The Roxbury and every hip celeb WeHo club in the early '90s. I am a great fucking mixer and I love it. Here's the thing... White people that listen to hip hop are fucking idiots. I'm sorry. I don't mean to offend anyone but the other thing is... They are extremely fickle. Once the new hip club comes along, they'll ditch the one they've been going to.
Rock & Roll customers are different. They're loyal. Look at the Burgundy Room. I've been asking since I started working at 107 for there to be similar DJs on my off Saturdays. I even offered to switch to Friday if it meant I could get similar DJs on my off nights. They just don't get it. Do you think it's a coincidence the place went into the tank the two months I wasn't there? Hip Hop customers suck and the R&R customers got scared off. Sorry, just my opinion.
3) EMPLOYEES COME BEFORE DUMB SHIT CUSTOMERS
Just venting a little about my suspension(see previous blog). I mean, come on! It's difficult to have owned a successful nightclub that was much bigger than 107 for 5 years and to see them pick some dumb cunt customers over the DJ that comes on time to work, rings more at the bar than any other DJ, comes in on his day off to fix the dance lights including buying light bulbs out of his pocket & never complains about the sound system being fucked up almost every week.
Whew... got that out and I feel better... Back to the real issue. Yes, Jes. It gets lonely, just like the rest of my life is but I'm certain that it won't be long until I meet not "the" but "a" right one for me. A right one that doesn't have a bf or husband that is...
