The head of horror movie website Arrow in the Head posted an article yesterday entitled "F*ck you Twilight!" As most of you know by now, the movie 'Twilight' (based upon the first of the über-popular book series by Stephanie Meyer) is about to be released next week - you must have seen the book, posters, previews, banners, or movie tie-in merchandise around by now - and there are a TON of ultra, ultra-excited fans out there. If you're one of them, good for you.
I read the book myself recently. I liked it, although it didn't throttle me; it was a nice, quiet, and subtle romance - which got fairly creepy towards the end. I do plan on seeing the movie, even if I'm not ultra-excited; I think it'll probably be better than the book (yes, you read that right), and although I think Robert Pattinson isn't the most obvious choice to play the beautiful Edward, I'll still give him a chance.
All that said...you're probably wondering why I mentioned the "F*ck you Twilight!" article. Take a look at this:
"This is not news but it needs to be said - all of us here at AITH would like to take a moment to say F*CK YOU IN THE EAR TWILIGHT! Don't get us wrong we'll keep reporting on the damn thing - its our job- but that doesn't mean that the HORROR FAN IN US isn't totally annoyed and fed up with this over-hyped, trampling teens, over exposed, genre Tampon. So once more, for the record, F*CK YOU TWILIGHT! Get released already and f*ck off! NOTE: Worst part of it is, I'll have to review it... bugh... suck to be me."
And yes, I'll admit it up front, I copied that without permission, and will gladly remove it if told to do so by "The Arrow" himself. For the time being, my point has to be made.
While the crew of Arrow In the Head snarl, scoff, snicker and smear the 'Twilight' movie beyond recognition (all BEFORE actually seeing it, I might add), I can't help but wonder why they're even paying it attention. Why?
Because 'Twilight' is NOT horror. It's not intended to be, and suspenseful scenes aside, I'm sure the movie will not attempt it.
So for these so-called professionals to go out of their way and use their own website to mock a movie that they haven't even seen yet because it's not even out...well, I think that's pretty damn immature and UNprofessional.
I might roll my eyes, scoff at, and get annoyed at the mere mention of, say, 'Step Brothers' - does that mean I can fairly criticize it? FUCK NO! I don't want to see it, I don't plan to see it, and yet if I do end up seeing it sometime, the opinion I'd make about it would only matter BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN THE DAMN THING.
It's ridiculous how immature, jaded, and pretentious the world has gotten (especially towards movies). It's a good thing that there are some still out there who know how to say "I think" and "in my opinion" when sharing their opinions - that alone is the first step towards having a worthy voice, and eventually, a respectable critic.
Oh well. Me? I'm going to see 'Twilight' - and whether I love it or loath it, think it's awesome or a giant suck-fest, at least I'm giving the thing a fair chance, which is more than I'll be willing to bet the schmucks at Arrow in the Head are going to do.
Peace out.
