Current mood:Infernal
I like Dogs. Alot. Alot better than I like people. Aggressiveness and Fearlessness in the face of death is a trait that I prize in the gladiatorial breeds. There is a romantic ideal personified in the atavistic vision of the lone gentleman walking with impunity into the night accompanied by faithfull four legged death. A beast that would leave blood and carnage in it's passing unto any that would threaten it's master. An uncompromising spirit,an authentic spirit, an iron spirit, a being that would lay down it's very life for it's Human God. My particular philosophical orientation welded as it is inextricably to my somewhat "Mardi-Gras" exterior, has earned me my share of enemies both seen, and unseen, who often go out of their way to make my life unpleasant, forcing me into chronic defensive posture. The fear of Black Magickal reprisals, curses and hexes, or psychic assasination keep most no-good-niks in check, but there is always some masochist who believes himself immune and dares to set himself against my adimantium will. For this type of human virus I employ the services of a particularly tenacious Demon. It's called the "Canis Pugnasis", or fighting Bulldog, and like the mythical Hellhound Cerberus who guards the gates to the underworld, my dogs have been similarly employed. I have owned and raised gladiator breeds all my life just as my father and grandfather did, and they are a dog like no other. Possessing all the qualities of the Satanist, loyalty, fealty, valor, courage, tenderness, strength, high intelligence, conviction, and an avenging do-or-die mental outlook. Some individuals reading this may feel I bequeath my dogs with an anthropomorphisized visage, but I "Gnoe" better. It is my "CONVICTION"( a dark spiritual gnosis born of a direct experience with the phenomena), that the pitbull is an Infernal conduit to a dark spiritual consiousness, a gateway to the warrior zeitgeist, a power that can be accessed by a worthy soul possessing a psyche of uncompromising vision and "Action"=Magick.. The belief that the pitbull, (herein reffered to as the "bulldog"), was an Infernal portal to the Gods of War and Chaos is a pre-christian idea that has seen eminance in various manifestations of European paganism. The de-varnished truth is that the Dog=God "Being" and it's connection to feral man is one of the great Satanic mysteries that has been glossed over by modern writers of magickal lore. Mithraism and it's warrior priesthood recognized the martial frequency of the ancient Alaunt, "bulldog", and held these dogs in high esteem. No one at this time can say with complete authority when the English first developed these dogs, but most canine historians think the original stock was brought over by Phoenician traders who got them from Greece or the Mid-East around the 6TH century BC. Julius Caesar may have encountered English Mastiffs when he made his initial assault on England in 55 BC. Legend has it that he was so impressed by the ferocity of the brawny war dogs that were then being used by the Celtic tribes that he shipped many of them back to Rome to engage in staged combat. Celtic tribes also bred their bulldogs to hunt wild boar,... the entire act of the hunt and kill being of great ritual and magickal significance. The Shaman of the tribe using the act to determine the outcome of initiatory status within the males of the tribe. By 300 AD the Romans had recognized the superiority of the British dogs for use in Gladiatorial contests. The Emporer established a special officer called the "Procurator Cynogie" who operated out of Winchester. His job was to locate the toughest and most belligerent fighting dogs in Britian and ship them off to Rome. Two types were of particular importance:1) A lighter dog(well under 100 lbs) for combat in the Coliseum against bulls, wolves, and small cats.2) A heavier dog (100 lbs or slightly less) to go against bears, big cats, and exotic challengers like hyenas. These dogs did not usually go directly against wild animals in pits the way they would later in England. Instead, they were teamed up with a special kind of human gladiator called a "Bestiarri", who fought only against beasts. What this amounted to was man and dogs hunting dangerous game in a confined space under the observation of spectators. Scrolls from this time period confirm that the British dogs could beat all comers. This is the end of part one of my Blog, "Quo Vadis Canis. In the second half I will extrapolate on the Canine/Warrior connection and its Occult 'Elan and vibratory frequency in relation to Infernal Martial Rites from an Evolian perspective, and the decadent philistine phenomena of hip-hop culture and its blame in the current dilemma of future Pitbull ownership in America. Very informative essay, to say the least. I was unaware of the true history of the pitbull, until now. You bring up a very important issue regarding the hip-hop culture and the ownership of pitbulls. If things continue as they are now going, the true nature of the pitbull could be in jeopardy. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Nyarlathotep Diabolus Rex. Hail Satan!

Yes.  Personally I resonate more with the cat, particularly with the leopard or cougarc but I understand the appreciation of the dog's  predatory, intense mindset.  The beasts with fang and claw do not fuck around.  When they play they are playing, when they are fighting they are doing everything they need to to destroy their opponent utterly.  They. Do. Not. Fuck. Around.  This passionate conviction and courageous intensity is the reason that weaker fleshed humans have always used them as symbols from ancient times to present.  The were-leopards of Central and South America.  The big, bad wolf of European folklore. Only a few examples.  But symbols are always more than that.   It's clear to me that these beasts, the individual particular animals not the group of animals, are in fact avatars for a furious, roaring force that we ourselves can exemplify if we stop fucking around as well.    Thanks, Rex, for articulating this.

I used to never like "pitbulls" (or bulldogs as you associated them as) until taking the time to relay your informative imput.  After reading this piece I have to say that now I have a new accute intrest in obtaining one.   I know I best do this soon for the breed is on the verge of being outlawed here in Oklahoma.  I am intrigued to see what part 2 will intell.  Thanks for the insight.

Magister Rex,

As a fellow bulldog lover, your essay truly strikes a chord with me.  My current "baby" is a 60 pound half-Lab half Pitbull mutt.  It would be hard to find a more loveable (and hard-headed) companion.

A great many of my acquaintances do not understand my affinity for those breeds.  Then again, those people rarely share any of the Bulldog's characteristics either...

HS!

I feel that the hip-hop , thug culture has come close ruining a good thing for those of us who are responsible pit-bull owners and owner hopefuls. I feel almost that it is a responsibilty, not a right to own these powerful breeds, and to abuse that priviledge should end the priviledge for those who do .

<P>"I like Dogs. Alot. Alot better than I like people."</P><P>Hahaha. Too much. I just woke up today from a dream saying I like cats alot better than I like people. But the reason I said it was because a spirit that was there upon my waking up, said to me you like cats, alot better than people. And so yea, I said that because of that dream I just had. Strange. (Well, actually I like all animals, period...except for the one's that human's have, how do you say it? over domesticated? taken the wisdom out of?) </P><P>There was this girl with blondish brown hair, who I think owned those cats. There was an older black cat sleeping on a counter in the kitchen. And the bitch, she just swiped her arm across the table dropping the cat on the ground and it landed with a thump, so loud...but it was still sleeping. And I felt so sad for the cat and actually all of them that were there. And the poor old black kitty finally woke up and she wanted to go up onto a different counter, so I leaned over a bit and she jumped up on my shoulder to get there. That's it. I woke up then.</P><P>Anyway, what a coincidence.</P><P> </P>

Were it not for this essay, I would have had no idea as to the actual Satanic significance of fighting dogs. I always have viewed it as an interesting hobby. Perhaps it is something worth investing more time researching.
