Hi there!
This week has involved...
- PAPA ROACH LIVE! :D
- A TON of biab videos
- Keeping up my primeloops blogs
- Another commissioned tutorial
- Doing a sweet YAWA press pack
Papa RoachFor my birthday, my homegirl Rachie got me a ticket to go and see Papa Roach with her and my other homegirl, Louise. This week entailed that show - and it was ace.
Not so much for the first bands - a rock group whose collective ego could outweigh your average steam liner and Madina Lake who, whilst seeming lovely people, managed to play a set that I forgot 3 seconds after it was over. Barring the guy's scream, that was pretty good.
Papa Roach were great fun though. Not so much for the slower new stuff, but it's all about Infest. Though some new tunes are good - hollywood whore has one of my favourite riffs ever.
They didn't move around all that much though, but managed to have a presence anyway. I think it's 'cause Jacoby Shaddix (the frontman) is really memorable and everyone there had clearly grown up watching him on TV, along with the fact that they had some really cool lighting - blue spotlights on towers on the stage that came down on them on the slower songs which looked really nice.
In fact, it made me think of an idea - having different colours for different YAWA albums. The "And" could be a different colour, the whole image for yawa could be in that colour and then live the lights could play off that coloured album when we play songs. It'd be ace - if we had like 4 albums and we were half way through a live show and the lights dipped to red, people would know some old school stuff was coming up and go mental :D In my head they do anyway.
But yes, good times were had by all, even though Rachie had a stomach ache afterwards when I took her home - I guess some moshers are a little overentheusiastic. Then again, who would want to give up the opportunity to beat up a small girl when it's socially acceptable?
Electro Pop... Yay!I've been making videos almost every day this week - I've been commissioned to remake "Cave in" by Owl City, a hilariously emo electronic artist who has some really nice synths. It's fun, since I can just get on with it - I don't have to think too much about what to write, I can just make the tutorial and see the response 'cause I've already done the hard work of actually making the song.
Primeloops is back on track too - I've done my two blogs this week with several tips on production in different genres. I've also got their blogs on boyinaband now... did I mention that already? It means my readers can read those other blogs I write too :) I direct the blogs to primeloops still though, I figure since they paid me they deserve that!
And I got another commission for a private video this week! (sounds dodgy saying that... It's not though, just a nice hardstyle synth :D) So the work is starting to come in nicely!
YAWA Press :DDid I mention YAWA was on Kerrang? Yeah, YAWA was on Kerrang. Ace, huh? But yeah - I've put together a press pack with some pictures to email out to potential venues, magazines, managers, agents... that kinda thing. Sketch did the main picture - check it out:
That girl is frickin' incredible. She exudes talent.
Umm...Uh... I'm trying to think what else I've been up to. I hung out with Kirstie briefly and ate too much meat (I was compensating for the fact that Scratch is a veggie.) I've played a tonne of the game "Heroes V". I've ordered "Brutal Legend" which looks amazing - from the maker of "Grim Fandango", one of my favourite games ever... and it has Jack Black as the main character. Quality.
Next Week on Dave's Blog...No gigs this week coming, so plenty of time to...
- Organise YAWA's finances
- Order more YAWA T-shirts
- Finish the Electro Pop blogs
- Finish the commissioned tutorial
- Do a video review for primeloops' DnB sample pack
- Apply to PRS (I learned I can make money from being a musician! Wow!)
- Have a business meeting
AND THE BLOGLY QUESTION: What is the meaning of life?
