What happens when you put a one the world's most talented Chefs, with the most renown Doctor in history? The answer, Only Built For Cuban Linx pt 2!! That's right Wu fans, the master lyricist himself Raekwon the Chef has teamed up with the chairman of the board, Dr Dre. And has signed a deal with Aftermath to put out the sequel to his critically acclaimed Only Built For Cuban Linx. After experiencing the Big Bang in 06 with Busta Bust, Hip Hop fans everywhere patiently wait and salivate for the Chef's Aftermath, Wu tang stew. When asked by MTV what brought about the collaboration, Rae had this to say, "I just felt it was going to be something to excite the fans in hip-hop. Let them know I'm dealing with a whole list of thorough super producers that's making sure this legacy of Cuban Linx carries on. We thought it was a brilliant idea to have RZA and Dr. collaborate, us being big Dre fans. His classics sheet is way long. As well as RZA's."
With two of the biggest rap producers of all time manning the boards, it's safe to say we could see resurgence in New York Hip Hop in 07. To add fuel to the flame, it is also rumored that some of the beats that may appear on Cuban Linx pt 2, have been taken from the still yet unreleased, but soon to be classic, DeToX!
But are these signs of New York resurgence, or a West coast takeover? With rappers like Busta Rhymes, Papoose, LL Cool J, and now Raekwon. All lining up to work with the G-Unit/Shady/Aftermath Empire, it leaves one to wonder is the spotlight returning to the East Coast? Or is the East Coast running west for the spotlight? Even New York darlings like Jay Z and Nas has enlisted the help of the great Doctor to put the finishing touches their albums.
But Whether New York Hip hop is in for resurgence or a takeover. One thing's for sure, with projects like Cuban Linx pt 2 and Detox on the way, Hip hop is far from dead. Sorry Nas, I guess you'll have to find something else to write about on your next album Lol.
