"It was a calm, cloudless night...". Actually it was pouring down rain last Thursday night when the Chromies visited Blue House Productions studio, one of our favorite places in the Universe, to record our brand new "Shoulders of Giants". This song celebrates 400 years of the telescope, and was commissioned to celebrate 2009: the International Year of Astronomy. It tells the story of Galileo's first peek through his new telescope, and all we've learned about the Universe since that Earth-shattering event. For a moment in time, Galileo was the only man on Earth that night who knew there were mountains and craters on the Moon, that Jupiter was a planet with its own moons in orbit around it, and that the Milky Way could be resolved into thousands of stars. That's worth singing about, right?! The song will be debuted at the summer meeting of the American Astronomical Society. Look for free downloads in the middle of June.
