Current mood: accomplished
With So many exciting genres and tracks being released I just wanted to remind everyone to expect something different from me, always. It's obvious from the mixes that I have up (Hardcore/Dnb/Hard dance to House) that I enjoy many styles of music. with that said, I can't and won't spin the same genre all the time. I love diversity and experimentation and furthermore, anything short of that is boring to me. Obviously at Bounce 3 I will be spining mainly Hardcore/Dnb and Harder beats. That was my first real show and was based around the underground sounds of Hardcore. For other shows it may be Hard dance, House or Trance. It all just depends on the show, where I feel the crowd is and where I am. To spin the same thing all the time is boring to me and I don't expect everyone to be able to hang with every genre I like; But I do hope that you would trust me enough to try. Thats why I DJ though. I DJ for myself just as much as the dancefloor and if I'm not having fun discovering new sounds and new ways to spin them, then I know my energy will reflect bordem onto the crowd. I also hope that many of you look at this as a chance to open up your hearts to genres that may have been ignored in the past or simply never heard before. I promise you this, no matter what I spin, it will be banging and I will get you off as crazy as possible. I hope that with that said you will always trust me as your DJ, and give many styles and moods a chance. No one always feels the same way all the time thus, I apply this to my DJ'ing. This isn't to say that I will completely go left field on you and spin super deep chill out at a rocking party, but it is to say that I want you all to remember me as an ever changing ball of energy. I love music and want to expose you (as well as myself) to the many gifts that many styles and moods have. Thats what a DJ is to me. A diverse teacher giving you every mood and every style and having the balls to pack a dance floor as well as "cleanse" it.
A nice little story -
I played a show in Hollywood Florida about 2 months ago. The DJ's before me were spinning very hard nu nrg style trance anthems. Now, I was going to follow with a similar genre, Hard Dance. Hard Dance to me is a mashup of Hard Trance, Hard Techno, and Hard House. To give the crowd more of what they were already getting off on and getting quite worn out on the floor didn't seem right. I could've easily busted out my Hard Dance anthems and very well had the whole place stick around and have just as packed of a dance floor. Although it could've also back fired and the tired kids may not have been in it for the long haul, heard that I was playing more of the same (so to speak) and simply went to sit down. Without knowning which way to go, I got on the decks, made a little speech about chicago and exposed them to some good old Chi-town Funky House. I love house music, and feel the history of it is important to know. With that said, the dance floor thinned out a little, then again it may have done that anyways even with the highest of energy music and the best of anthems. Did it back fire? No. I'd say I lost about 200 people yet still had a good 400 watching. Were they loving the house sounds, hell yes. I didn't except everyone to hang with it, but in the end it was still rockin. A little slower BPM, still banging gave everyone a chance to stay on the floor and move a little easier. They had a chance to move still, yet they could catch their breaths. And we all had a killer time. At the end of the night I had a line of people waiting to congratulate me on a job well done. I always appreciate that. It's the same feeling when I get done with a Happy hardcore set or a Hard Dance set.
So then, keep an open mind, come to dance and learn. I love you all and thank you soo much for being the coolest damn people a DJ could ask for in dancers. For we are the diverse, we are the bridges in the EDM City. We wear kandee but love Drum and Bass and dance to Hardcore like it's House.
How open will you allow your mind to be?
bless, Mikey
