You now know what we've known for years. It's a shame the secret's out but if it had to go, what a way to go... You and Orville make a mighty fine pair. Nice of you to ask if we wanted to join you, though... Ha! Looking forward to Blog 2--

Jimmy, you found out our secret, not just the OBX but Awful Arthurs as well. I live about two hours from the OBX and it has ALWAYS reminded me of you. Now I feel very honored to know that you have been there and liked it as much as I have over my short 41 years of life. By the way, that is a great picture of you on the boat in the sound. Not too bad either I must say, for an old guy. Haha.. and an early "Happy Birthday" greeting to you also sir.
I do hope a song does come out about the Outer Banks that would be totally awesome. You are the best!!!!

Great to see you doing one of my favorite trips when I was in the coast guard. Nice to see that N.C. has not changed much in the past 20 years, I cannot wait to see the next blog.

We use to take the 3-day weekend and see how far we could go south from Cape May during those 3 days before we had to turn around. I would have to say that the Ice Cream at the Florida line was the best we had ever tasted

Thanks for removing the thick layer of dust off my memories.

Jimmy in the Outer Banks! Perfect! Hope you were able to capture and feel the serinity that it offers. I live in Richmond, VA, however, two of my children live there, a daughter in Kitty Hawk and a son in Manteo who has enjoyed life there as a First Mate for several years. I catch a ride on his boat every chance I get for some great offshore fishing. Hope you have a chance to come back soon and I'm looking forward to reading part two of your adventure! Also looking forward to the possibility of a song or two from your time in OBX!
Yours in music!

Aren't the Outer Banks a wonderful place!!! I've spend most of my life in the Southern Outer Banks (although currently stationed in Oklahoma with my husband, your music has helped me make it through 6 months of 'landlocked-ness'). You missed a great party at my home this weekend, lots of oysters margaritas & rum!!

I love the idea of flying the Outer Banks at a altitude of no more than 500 feet. My husband just received his pilot wings from the USAF & we plan on taking our family up for the first time on our next visit over Christmas. I suppose the only thing more beautiful than the wonderful Crystal Coast is the Crystal Coast from above!

Great blog on the OBX road trip!

I am interested in the Green Tomato Ford that you are road tripping in. Did I read correctly that it is running on waste veg oil? I just helped convert my company's F550 to do the same and it is amazing.

BTW, I am near the end of your novel "A Salty Piece of Land" and am so very ready to put my horse on a boat and head south...

Jimmy,....Glad you had a good time in the Carolina's! Being a kayaker, and a parrothead, seeing Andy mentioned in your blog was the best of both worlds. Hope you had a chance to visit Howards Pub on Ocracoke, for some of the peel and eat variety. BTW would love to see you in WV for the annual Parrothead party at the rafting place I used to work for.....Fins Up!

Yes, the Wright brothers created the first engine/motor powered airplane. But, the first flying machine was built by my stepfathers cousin Mr. Murrell. If you want to see the historic site you'll need to do so soon. http://www.rosecenter.org/MMurrell.html

Glad to see you were able to enjoy what us locals take advantage of for the most part. It's a beautiful area that we often take for granted! Take advantage of visiting Cape Lookout too next time if you have the chance. Very secluded but gorgeous none the less! Although I'm a native Carolina Girl, my heart still lives in the Keys, along with you guys, Margaritaville, your music and the adorable atmosphere!

Delmarva Peninsula...hmm well being a Delaware woman I know where that is. I sit on the beach at Cape Henlopen State Park almost daily in the Summer. Also love to do the Assateague and Chicoteague trips too. Here's a suggestion for you Jimmy. Why not a concert at The Rusty Rudder or Bottle and Cork in Dewey Beach, DE sometime? There'a always Seacret's in OC, Md. too! Just a suggestion from a pirate-ess about to turn 53.

Glad to hear you are passing through our neck of the woods. NC12 is no A1A....We all hope it will stay that way.
I see you managed to snag a couple of specks on your trip. The fishing has slowed a bit down here off Wrightsville beach, but the specks and flounder are still around. Live shrimp on a Carolina Rig seems to be working...

Loved your Outer Banks writing. If you get to Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach, look us up. It's been a long time since the days of partying at the Witt's End, but there are still a few of us old timers around! Most of us are at Kefi or the Wrightsville Grille now. Take it lightly, and enjoy the ride!

Thanks for sharing your adventure. It does a New Englander's heart good to share the trip! It amazes me that there are so many wonderful things to see in this country, and times being what they are...taggin' along with you is a very affordable way to travel. So, just keep livin' the dream and sharing with all of us parrotheads! I Love it! Merry Christmas!

Jimmy,

You are the true trubadour and story teller of our time! Loved it!

Wishing you and yours a very happy holiday season from San Antonio, Texas...you know, the city you keep forgetting to come to. Heck, even Phil Collins makes frequent trips here and it's not for the Mexican Food and Margarita's either! Just kidding...he comes for the food and margarita's and a little Alamo history.

Since you like driving on the beach and just beach access I would emplore you and the rest of the parrottheads to contact there senators and congress men and ask them to vote yes for S.3113. A yes vote keeps the beaches of the OBX open to all!!!http://www.congress.org/congressorg/bill.xc?billnum=S.3113&congress=110activity

Hello, Jimmy. Being a Virginia boy, I take my family to vacation in the Outer Banks every year as it is so close. We have stayed in Avon, Rodanthe, Salvo, South Nags Head and Kitty Hawk repeatedly (I believe our house for this year is back in South Nags Head). Next time you go down there, you should try eating at Goombays and Mama Kwan's- equally good restaurants. Let folks know next time you might go through there. It would be awesome to have you do a cameo appearance at Kelly's or the Outer Banks Brewery. I've heard that does happen with you from time to time. Unfortunately for me, my timing is horrible. Looking forward to the new OBX CD and box set- :-)
