Current mood: sad Category: Life
On the day of my birth - California - my home state - has once again
decided to deny me the same rights as the rest of America. I am sure
many are pleased that "precious marriage" has been protected. That an
institution which the gay community had nothing to do with for all the
years the divorce rate climbed and adultery continued to increase - but
now, as is the case of so many, the gay community is blamed.
Another minority - a group that even my own mother understands it is
GENETIC - has been ruled over by a terrible majority - a tyranny that
wants to control so much they simply don't understand or worse, that
they are afraid of.
Each time a friend of mine says they are moving to California, I ask
"why?" As someone who grew up there, I could not leave soon enough. The
earthquakes, the droughts, the job losses, the wrecked state budgets to
make California consider re-writing the Constitution - and even worse -
the horrible prejudice. It exists and has existed for as long as I have
been alive. Towards us, towards blacks, Hispanics, religions - any group
that did not agree with the majority(at the time) - they were hated.
Just as a large portion of California still fears us - they will do all
they can to deny us equal rights. Not because we threaten them or an
institution that they claim to hold dear - but because they think they
are better than us - THAT is the definition of prejudice (not to mention
injustice!).
I wish I had never been born in that state - I wish - as both my brother
and sister were lucky enough to have been born elsewhere - I wish I
could claim ANY place but California as my home..
Continue to deny us rights - continue to call us 2nd class citizens - it
did not work with other minorities and it won't work with us.
California - enjoy your failed government - your broken budget - your
worse drought in decades. Watch your cities fail because they too have
no budgets to speak of. And as you sit back, you can bask in the glow
that you were successful in preventing loving couples from having simple
rights... Celebrate your victory - as you continue to fail as a terrible
example of what I simply want no more part of...
Thanks for making the anniversary of my birth a day I want to forget...
