After three years of debating and meeting several professional piercers, I finally made the "jump"! I may add that this was no easy decision or easy task for me. (if you know who I am this may be a HUGE surprise) I have had many piercing's done in the past (lip, tongue, navel, nose, and ears) and currently have a navel ring, nose ring and ear rings in place. I also am the proud owner of four tattoo's and have been no stranger to pins and needles.
In August of 2005 I found a tattoo and piercing shop, not too far away from my home and went exploring. I investigated the shop, looked around the piercing room, equipment.. and made sure that the shop was immaculately clean! I met the piercer who's name is Eric. I talked with him about his profession and he was extremely educated about all the different aspects of the industry. We spoke about my interest in having a hood piercing, as well as my interest in getting my nipples pierced. I asked him a million different questions that day and he also gave me his email address in case I had any more. I, of course, had a few more, and then a few more after that. I was deeply concerned about the piercing interfering with my sexual activities, size and shape of jewelry, amount of pain, and the actual procedure. Eric answered all of my questions in depth and never hesitated to send me links to BME, etc. that had stories of some of the piercing's he had done before. I found this very informative and helpful and it made me feel confident with him doing the piercing and less nervous.
Just before New Year's Eve, with my "new attitude" type of thinking, I decided to go for it! I called the shop and asked Eric if he would have time and he did. When I got there he made sure that I was comfortable. We went into the piercing room, he sat down and started explaining all of the items located on the tray that he would be using. Once he was finished getting everything ready he asked me to undress from the waist down and to sit in the chair. I did this but was still very nervous. He reassured me that he was very familiar with the process and made light of the situation by telling me that he had done many "other" types of piercings. He explained to me that he needed me to move forward and to open my legs so that he could see and do the actual piercing. Eric was very business oriented and this made me feel at ease. (Though I never enjoyed going to the OB/GYN for a visit, this experience felt very much like it, and that did not bother me at all.)
He told me in detail before and what he was doing. The area was cleaned. He made sure to figure out the exact, perfect placement of the piercing and he confirmed all of my decisions. When the time had come for the big moment he told me to relax and to take a deep breath. The needle was through before I exhaled. It was not the most painful piercing that I have ever experienced but I definitely did feel it. It took only a couple seconds to get the jewelry through the needle/piercing and attached to the ball. I had a horizontal hood piercing done with a 10.5 gage circular barbell. The piercing was cleaned again and I was given specific instructions in reference to after care. I was also given a piercing solution to help with healing.
One thing that I should mention is that the piercing did, in fact, bleed a significant amount. I was forewarned about this and knew what to expect but was also reminded that everyone is different and has different experiences. With this being said I was still surprised that I bled as much as I did without pain. I want to explain that my piercing was not all in any way painful after the initial needle stick. I did not feel it in place and have not felt it unless I get something that is not lying correctly in the personal area that it resides.
I have had my piercing in place for almost three weeks now and it is healing very well! I have had the normal healing issues such as a mild amount of discharge from the piercing site. I have found that the solution that was given to me has been very useful in helping it heal. I also have been doing the recommended salt baths every night and that has been helping as well. I have been cleaning my piercing with a non-fragranced anti-bacterial soap at least twice a day. All things being considered I have found the after care to be relatively quick, easy and not at all painful.
I was recommended by Eric to refrain from oral sex for two weeks but was informed that having sex would be okay as long as it was not causing the site any pain. I found that it took approximately 10 days for me to be able to touch it for pleasuring myself without it being tender. I also have had sex and found the piercing to enhance the experience. For me, the placement adds pressure on my clitoris and increases the sensitivity and has made it easier for me to be stimulated to an orgasm. For oral sex, the piercing stimulates me in a similar way and is fantastic!
I have been wanting this piercing for so long and it was well worth the wait. I would recommend this piercing to someone who is looking to increase, intensify their sexual experiences, either with them self or with a sexual partner. I would also strongly urge you to follow all directions given to you by your piercer. This is going to save you a lot of healing time and discomfort. I know that you are excited to play with your new toy but you waited long enough to get it, so you should do it right! Enjoy!
