........................................

TMZ was the first to report accurately that Michael Jackson passed away yesterday, June 25th, some time in the afternoon.  It was a sad day for music and entertainment as we have  lost Michael Jackson to heart failure of some type.  The exact cause the cardiac arrest is not known, but it is widely speculated that he may have been given too big a dose of pain killing medicine.

According to TMZ reports, he was rushed to the hospital and was not breathing at the time, and they attempts to resuscitate him failed.  If it’s true, it is well known that opiate pain killers are a very powerful breathing suppressant, and it does not take much of an overdoes to kill someone.  His long time attorney kept warning him he had the wrong people around him, to no avail it seems.

Over recent years, ....Jackson.... has come under attack for his personal behavior, but knowing how he grew up, the severe abuse he was subjected to, and the pressure he was under to succeed at such a young age, I think we have to really focus more on his amazing talent than we should on any shortcomings he may have had.  He shared his amazing gifts with us over his lifetime, and over most of my lifetime, and we should all be thankful for the way he made us feel, in good times, and in bad.

Not since Elvis Presley has any single individual affected pop culture as broadly or widely as Michael. His fashion style, his incredible songs and singing, and his off the charts gift for dancing, affected nearly everyone on the planet during his lifetime. He was at once Elvis, dancer Fred Astaire, and designer Gianni Versace. He changed the world, and he entertained us for so many years since he was a small boy. I grew up watching him and the Jackson Five. He was a mere five years older than me.

I for one will miss Michael Jackson.

I agree with you for the most part, you can't take away is undeniable talent. I was never a huge fan of his, but his artistic talent was on the verge of brilliant. It's a lot of pressure to be in the constant lime light from such a young age. No one can criticize his behavior until they have walked a mile in his shoes. We are only given what the media tells us. Unless we were there with him, one never knows. It is definatley a sad day. He was big part of my youth and it just goes to show you how short life is and to not take for granted and to not let people drive you insane or to death.

I'm a fan of his music.  As for the downside stories, I didn't have the greatest childhood, either, but we all grow to an age where we are responsible for our own actions.  There are hundreds of thousands of people in prison who blame everything they did on their childhood.  They have the option of changing their life but many would rather fall back on excuses their entire life.

Rest in Peace, Michael...probably for the first time in your life.  I have a lot of compassion for your children and family.

I was and will always be a fan of Michael Jackson.. I loved his music.. People can say this and that about him, but you can't take away the fact that he was VERY talented!! And as far as that goes, nobody really knows what "really" happened! The media can make anything happen!
Bottom Line.. Michael, you were very talented and will be greatly missed!! RIP

I agree, who are we to judge him.. He suffered in a way that know one knows.  He was very talented yet unable to deal with all the  unresolved issues.  No telling what it was like being in his head and his body...I believe unresolved issues can manifest in so many different forms.  I hope he was able to make peace with his father.  He did a lot of good and some people are forgetting that.  Now he is free from the torment and he did make a impact on many people in ways we may never fully grasp.  R.I.P

Thanks for the blog

....am still in shock - over his death - cos it was SO sudden like Anna Nicole and Elvis - He was an incredible talent - and sadly surrounded by the wrong people. as for being a pedophile - he was acquited and there were stories of the kids who filed - that it was their MO _ He was trying for a comeback to get back his reputation and - sadly - I feel he was so affected by drugs - given -

He will be missed - there is SO much more we will miss from this genius -

Excellent post Joe. Like many people, I have taken the news of Michael Jackson's death very hard. I was a fan of his when I was younger. The 'Thriller' album was the best thing I had ever heard. As I grew older, my taste in music changed and I didn't listen to him as much. It had nothing to do with his personal life or his eccentric behavior. I just moved on.

The news of his death has hit me hard I suppose because he has been a larger than life fixture in society. He was the kind of person that we expected to always be there. That is why his death was and is so shocking.

Thanks for your well written and sensitive blog, my friend. Have a good weekend.

Matt

I have been a fan of Micheal Jackson ever since I was about 10 or 11 yrs. I respect him as a person and for his humanity towards others. We should celebrate the goods things about his legacy and the negative things. He was treated unfairly by the media and others and was not given the recognition and respect that was due to him. His music was an inspiration to me and will always be. He will live with us forever. He made the whole world his children. RIP Micheal-I love you!!!

I will not miss Michael Jackson as I chose to let him go years ago.  It was never in a hateful way, just at some point I realized the boy/man/entertainer I loved so much was gone. And while I understand the damage of abuse, probably more than most, as an adult we are responsible for the repair.  At some point he died for me and became the superstar of past rather than present. Never letting go of him, just not taking him with me into the future.

But I will always feel my toes tapping when I hear Beat It, I will be reminded of sitting by the telphone redialing over and over again for concert tickets when I hear Thriller.  I will remember wanting to be the girl in the Way YOu Make Me Feel video.  I rmember getting a tear in my eye the first time I heard Man in the Mirror.  I remember the countless MJ buttons I had on my jackets and the red coat I just had to have that looked like his.

Listening to him I am thirteen again.  Then I am 18 again.  Then I am 25 again.  His material always takes me back, mostly to better places and better times.   I pray he is in a better place now and that all that haunted him in this life has been lifted and he is loved.

Very nice blog about Michael. I will never forget the day he passed, because it was on my birthday. His talent was larger than most people could even imagine. Only in his passing, did some people realize how much he gave up just to get where he was as an entertainer. What they didn't know, was how much he cared about people, as being a humanitarian was what he enjoyed being when he was not performing towards the slowing down of his career. Thanks for your input & for writing your thoughts down.

If you've ever had the chance like I have to be in the front row of one of his concerts you understand more what has ben taken from us. No one could ever compare to MJ, definitely "Gone to Soon."
I still cry over him being gone. If you have not seen "This is It" you are missing a great inside view of him and his love for people and the world.
