Sharply at odds over Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program, Washington and Tehran are arguing increasingly about Iraq. Yet even these two bitter enemies can agree on one thing... it's a total freaking disaster.
In an interview with National Public Radio, President Bush put Tehran on notice, saying, "If Iran escalates its military actions in Iraq to the detriment of our troops and/or innocent Iraqi people, we will respond firmly." Because escalating military actions in Iraq to the detriment of our troops and/or innocent Iraqi people is OUR job.
The president's comments reinforced earlier statements from National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe who said Iran is playing a destructive role in Iraq but the administration would welcome a positive contribution from Iran.
"We've seen little evidence to date and frankly all we have seen is evidence to the contrary." Or was he talking about Iraqi WMD?
"We've seen little evidence to date and frankly all we have seen is evidence to the contrary." Could go either way.
The president is taking heat on the home front as well. Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, at a political rally in Iowa, said it is Bush's responsibility to "extricate" the United States from the situation before he leaves office, "This was his decision to go to war with an ill-conceived plan and an incompetently executed strategy." Or was she talking about John Kerry's 2004 campaign?
"An ill-conceived plan and an incompetently executed strategy." Could go either way.
Clinton also said she will run hard in the Iowa caucus, which her husband skipped in 1992 due to that year's candidacy of Iowa favorite son, Senator Tom Harkin, "My participation in the Iowa caucuses is the only thing in politics that I will do that Bill has not done." Or was she talking about girl on girl sex with Dick Cheney's daughter.
"The only thing in politics that I will do that Bill has not done." Could go either way.
And of course it's long been said in certain political circles that Hillary herself…uh... could go either way.
