Greetings all,
At LONG, LONG last, the newest installment of my Kaleidoscope series is up and available on Samurai.fm. I'd first like to say that although this one took a particularly long time to finish, you can expect to see new shows completed with much greater frequency from now on. Of course, the shows will always be available at my show page (www.samurai.fm/popstatic) but I will include tracklistings and links to downloadable mp3's of the first three show entries at the bottom of this email as well. Make sure to grab each one!
I'd secondly like to note that this entry in my mix series should not be listened to at work or in any other environment sensitive to profanity. It is a SERIOUSLY obnoxious and vulgar affair, no joke. However, it is an awfully fun mix; the kind of thing you should be able to turn on at a party or event (or at least any party or event that I'd want to attend) and just run from start to finish. Let it be known though that if you're at all sensitive to talk of "big booty bitches", "ho's", and the various sexually depraved acts that folks like DJ Assault would like to have performed for them in the club, than you might want to sit this one out altogether. If you're at all like me and that sounds like a hilariously good time, you'll probably love it.
I've always had something of an obsession with bass music and really crude party music (stuff like DJ Assault, 2 Live Crew, etc.) and because those records are usually quite lo-fi and unpolished, I've always wanted to make a mix that combined those sorts of tunes with more full and colorful and sophisticated productions. Thats kind of what I tried to do here. I guess this mix is sort of like my idea of what a really hedonistic and shamelessly "party" dj set should sound like... Like, if for example, I was the kind of person to wear skin-tight jeans and throw parties for under-aged, over-served shitbag hipsters; this is the kind of dj set I'd actually like to be playing. Whether or not it would be "hip" or "current" enough for any of them is an entirely different story though and truthfully, most of the tracks on this mix are several years old and not currently "hot" at all. However, they should have been bought a bit of an extra shelf-life within this mix given that they've been re-contextualized in a way that I'm sure most of you have never heard them. And besides, I've always held the belief that "current" and "fun should not be mutually exclusive terms in the mind of the party-rocking DJ.
All silliness and crass sexual exploits aside, when all is said and done you should still be able to hear some of the loosely psychedelia-inspired and surreal prettiness that I like to inject in these mixes (albeit, with a truly tasteless and disgusting underpinning). Hopefully it will still translate consistently within the greater scope of this mix series and you'll all find it fun and worth repeat listens. The summer's finally here so take this one out in your car or throw it on at your next house party and let the debauchery ensue.
Cheers!
-Jarrett
