Basketball season is almost here! After a long summer off the teams are gearing up again - and they aren't just simply heading back to the court - have you heard the latest?
The league's highly anticipated 61st season commences with "NBA Opening Week...It's Game Time!", a new basketball-themed season launch inspired by the hard work and passion of the players featuring special events and NBA Cares community initiatives in each team market. There are plenty of reasons to get excited for the 2007-08 season: The excellent rookie class, KG and Ray Ray in green, Suns vs. Mavs, A.I. vs. Sixers, etc.
The 2007-08 season tips off on TNT, which will begin its 24th season of NBA game action, with a doubleheader on Tuesday, Oct. 30 that features the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs and the No. 1 overall selection from the 2007 NBA Draft Greg Oden and the Portland Trail Blazers at AT&T Center at 8 p.m. ET. TNT's coverage of the Spurs-Trail Blazers game also features the Championship ring ceremony for the Spurs.
The second game of TNT's doubleheader showcases Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets squaring off in Los Angeles against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers at Staples Center at 10:30 p.m. ET.
If you haven't been paying attention - here is what's going on:
* Timberwolves trade KG (Kevin Garnett) to Boston in a huge trade deal. (but as of this posting Doc Rivers is still the coach of this team which also includes 2 more big stars - Ray Allen and Paul Pierce. This team is in pursuit of baner 17.
* Danny Ainge has also approached Reggie Miller about coming out of retirement to ALSO play for the Celtics, word is he is considering it - I'd say the Celtics are getting serious
* Grant Hill, from the Magic, signed with the Phoenix Suns
* Steve Kerr joined the Suns in June as the Team's General Manager, we will miss his commentary....
*Everyone probably heard that Kobe Brant (LAL) and Jermaine O'Neal want to be traded, even though they both later denied it - so far nothing has been announced but that would be big news...
*Orlando Magic, our local team here, have a new coach in Van Gundy and also paid a boat load of money to get Rashard Lewis, since we have no crystal ball, one can only wait and see, we'll be waiting in section 109 :)
*Vince Carter is staying in NJ with the Kidd.
