WOW! OH WOW!!!
Thank you Racine/Kenosha for making the second annual Blankfest such a huge success. Our goal was to beat last years totals (around 80-85) and we pretty much doubled it. For those of you who don't know Blankfest is an annual fundraiser that started in New York City and has spawned across the country. The idea is to gather some bands and instead of charging a cover, you bring a blanket to donate. The blankets then get donated to local homeless shelters. This year we decided to donate the blankets to the homeless veterans of America. Thing is we received so many that we were also able to give blankets to The Love And Charity Mission here in Racine run by a saint of a women Louise Hunter. A big big thank you to Mr. Ron Purtee for making it all happen. He was the one who had the vision to bring Blankfest to Racine. He's the one who also hand picked the bands. Good job Ron. When we counted the blankets this year we came up with a total of 145/50 or so. Many of the blankets were in three packs so the total is more then likely around 175/180. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! That is so awesome. Also thanks to the people who brought socks, underwear, and jackets.
A big thanks to all the bands that played, you were all just amazing. I highly recommend that you seek out these bands and support them. They didn't think twice about donating their time. Let's support them. Big shouts out to Andy Schonert, Matt Geary and The Back Pockets, Thunder Driver www.myspace.com/thunderdriver , The Vanishing Art www.myspacethevanishingart (who I have to say are fucking unbelievable!!! absolutely one of my new favorite bands!!), Five Man Trio www.myspace.com/5man3 , and of course The Argonauts www.myspace.com/tribukanargonauts .
Also thank you to Derangos Pizza on Hwy 20 for donating 5 party pizzas for everyone early in the night (and also the leftovers made for a great closing time snack). Thanks to Bob Valone and Gary for doing sound for all the bands, and the Argonauts for providing back line. Big Thanks to the Racine Journal Times for all the great press they gave the event, thank you so much for helping spread the word on this event. I tell you this night left me with a renewed faith in people
