Dear Friends,
We are sending this out in the hopes of clarifying all the rumors, rumblings, and hearsay. Black Betty is not closed, nor closing. We have signed a new 10 year lease and look forward with great anticipation for the continuation of providing our beloved community a warm place, with quality food and first rate entertainment. Our most sincere thanks and appreciation goes out to our dedicated clientele, staff and friends who call Black Betty their home and wowed us with their concern, council and support during our recent tribulations.
Our good news of the continuation of Black Betty in the Brooklyn community has also come with a steep price. We unfortunately had to take on enormous debt to secure our new lease. Perhaps most sane people would have said enough is enough, but we feel that in this climate of economic skullduggery, where greed is threatening the cultural future of our city, it’s vital that we soldier on. So as we prepare to celebrate our 10 year anniversary this May 7th once again we turn to our friends for support.
Rather than raising prices and charging admission, we are launching a “Save Black Betty” campaign to be celebrated Sunday April 26th – 30th. In the works are various shows and events both at Black Betty and offsite where we are hoping to offset the financial burden our voracious landlord has placed upon us. Our DJ’s are creating compilations, our talented design friends are preparing merchandise and some of Brooklyn’s most talented bands will be on display. Look out this week for details on the talent performing and raffle prizes give-aways on our

We apologize in advance for reaching out during these trying times as we are aware that everyone has their own financial cross to bear. However, we feel this is a chance to strike a blow for the little guy and save a Brooklyn institution. Cheers to our collective futures.
Love,
Black Betty
